On Her Shoulders is pleased to present a staged reading of THE CAMP by Griselda Gambaro, directed by Kristin Heckler on Thursday, September 21, 2017. Doors open at 6:45pm for a prompt start at 7:00pm with The Play in Context Introduction by Melody Brooks, who situates the script in its historical time and place.

Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre's 49th season cedes the floor to modern-day griots with gripping, one-person tales capturing the trauma and triumph of a people. In a nod to the African tradition of the storyteller and historian who inspires and uplifts, the season is anchored by two one-person shows, The Peculiar Patriot, by Liza Jessie Peterson, a coproduction with Hi-ARTS, and Sancho by Paterson Joseph, a coproduction with Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) and Pemberley Productions. Themed "Black to the Future," the 49th season-which includes workshop productions by resident playwrights-seeks to take stock of the present and look to the past to predict and help shape a brighter future for Black people.

Eminent maestro Vladimir Spivakov and the acclaimed Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra will perform at Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University on Saturday, June 3 at 7:30 PM as a part of their seven-city North American tour. Joining them are the brilliant soprano and Metropolitan Opera star Hibla Gerzmava - last heard at the Met in 2016 as Desdemona in Verdi's Otello, and who recently made her La Scala Opera debut in the title role in Donizetti's Anna Bolena - and 14-year-old Israeli prodigy, cellist Danielle Akta.

To honor the program's legacy, Caramoor launches the summer season with a gala selection of bel canto's greatest hits in 'A Night of Italian Opera' (June 17) and presents a semi-staged account of Bellini's first bel canto masterpiece, Il pirata (July 8). Mounted in the superb acoustics of the outdoor Venetian Theater on Caramoor's idyllic Westchester estate, both events feature the resident Orchestra of St. Luke's and showcase the exceptional artistry of 2017 Artist-in-Residence Angela Meade - 'the most talked-about soprano of her generation' (Opera News) - who first catapulted to national attention in the title role of Bellini's Norma at Caramoor seven years ago. The eighth season of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic's new-music series, will conclude with two World Premieres of New York Philharmonic Commissions, Sam Pluta's binary/momentary ii: flow state/joy state and David Fulmer's Sky's Acetylene; the program also includes Eric Wubbels's katachi (2011) — featuring conductor Jeffrey Milarsky, Sam Pluta on live electronics, and a vocalist to be announced — and Jacob Druckman's Come Round (1992). The concert, performed by Musicians from the New York Philharmonic, takes place Monday, May 22, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at National Sawdust.

The Merola Opera Program launches its 60th Anniversary season on Sunday, June 11 with a Benefit Gala at City Hall and a concert immediately following at Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, featuring some of the acclaimed Merola program's most illustrious participants. The 60th Anniversary concert will feature performances by Merola alumni from the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and current and recent participants, including: soprano Deborah Voigt (1985); mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick (1983); Mark Morash, pianist and Merola Opera Program Music Director (1987); and soprano Tracy Dahl (1985); soprano Kristin Clayton (1993), mezzo-soprano Catherine Cook (1990), Bojan Knezevic, bass-baritone (1992, 1993, 1994), and John Churchwell, pianist (1996); baritone Quinn Kelsey (2002); 2013 Merola graduates mezzo-soprano Zanda Šv?de and tenors Pene Pati and Issachah Savage; soprano Julie Adams, and bass Anthony Reed,  all from 2014; Amina Edris and Toni Marie Palmertree, sopranos; and Brad Walker, bass-baritone, both from 2015; and 2016 artists Sarah Cambidge, soprano; Amitai Pati and Kyle van Schoonhoven, tenors; Andrew G. Manea, baritone; John Elam and Jennifer Szeto, pianists; and director Aria Umezawa.

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus and Executive Director Diane Quinn, will present Arrabal, with a book written by John Weidman, music by Gustavo Santaolalla / Bajofondo, choreographed by Julio Zurita, and directed and co-choreographed by Sergio Trujillo.
