Acclaimed box office star, producer and humanitarian Richard Gere will open the 34th edition of Miami Dade College's Miami Film Festival on March 3, 2017, followed by an Opening Night Gala screening of his new film, Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer, directed by 2-time Oscar-nominated Israeli filmmaker Joseph Cedar, with the KORBEL Opening Night Party to follow at Miami's Historic Alfred I. Dupont Building.

In the final subscription concerts of his tenure as Music Director, Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic joined by musicians from orchestras around the world in concerts celebrating the power of music to build bridges and unite people across borders. Those invited to participate include members of orchestras from Australia, China, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The program, taking place Thursday, June 8, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 9 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 10 at 8:00 p.m., will include Mahler's Symphony No. 7. Special guest artists will include cellist Yo-Yo Ma, on June 8, and trumpet player Wynton Marsalis, on June 9.

OMNI Ensemble Continues Season with Concert for Flute, Violin, Cello and Harpsichord

The OMNI Ensemble will continue its 34th season of concerts in the recital hall of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music on Saturday evening, March 11 at 8:00 pm. Music Director/Flutist David Wechsler, will be joined by violinist Dan Auerbach, cellist David Bakamjian and harpsichordist Rebecca Pechefsky for an evening of music for flute, violin, cello and harpsichordWorks to be performed are J.S. Bach's Sonata for flute and harpsichord in B minor, George Phillip Telemann's Paris Quartet in D major, Jacques Ibert's Deux Interludes for flute, violin and harpsichord, Milos Raickovich's Passacaglia and Double Fugue on B-A-C-H and B-A-G-D-A-D, and the World Premiere of David Wechsler's Sonata for flute, cello and harpsichord. Continuing as the chamber music group in residence at the Brooklyn Conservatory, the OMNI Ensemble will continue to perform concerts of enormous variety all designed to provide their audience with a musical diversity not ordinarily encountered by one chamber music group. Throughout the season they perform in the recital hall at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.

Thierry Fischer to Complete Brahms' Cycle with Utah Symphony in Two February Weekends

On February 3 and 4 at 7:30 PM, Maestro Fischer will conduct Brahms' Symphony No. 2 and Brahms' "Academic Festival Overture", in a concert that features guest artist Narek Hakhnazaryan debuting in Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1. Maestro Fischer will return to the stage two weeks later to lead Brahms' Symphony No. 4 on February 24 and 25, concluding Brahms' symphony cycle in the Utah Symphony 2016-17 season. The February 24/25 concert will also include the U.S. premiere of Michael Jarrell's composition "Aquateinte" performed by guest oboist Francois Leleux, for whom the piece was written. These performances are both part of the O.C. Tanner Company Masterworks Series. Tickets start at $21 ($15 for students), and can be purchased at utahsymphony.org or by calling (801) 533-6683.
