Birdland presents the return of Karen Mason, who stormed the stage with her legendary Christmas show on December 19. “Christmas! Christmas! Christmas!” showcases Karen’s unique interpretations of old and new holiday classics, including a slinky arrangement of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” a heartfelt “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” and many more. The show featured direction by Barry Kleinbort, with musical direction by Christopher Denny on piano and Tom Hubbard on bass.

Broadway designer James Youmans (West Side Story, Gypsy, Come Fly Away) has just revealed his set renderings for two-time Tony winner Joe DiPietro's newest play CONSCIENCE, which is set to begin performances March 3rd at George Street Playhouse's new home at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. CONSCIENCE will star Broadway favorite and Tony winner Harriet Harris as Margaret Chase Smith, the influential senator who said no to Joseph McCarthy.

Los Altos Hills will be alive with The Sound of Music this summer, when multi-award winning Foothill Music Theatre presents the Tony, Grammy, and Academy Award-winning musical. This beloved musical, set in Austria in 1938, follows novice Maria Rainer who becomes the governess for the von Trapp family, capturing the hearts of the seven children and their father, a widowed naval captain. As the Nazis occupy Austria, the family is forced make decisions which forever change their lives, fleeing their home in pursuit of freedom. Disney Theatrical's new Broadway musical Frozen celebrated its opening night at the historic St. James Theatre on Thursday night. In the great Broadway tradition, the company held a Gypsy robe ceremony before the show to honor the ensemble member with the most Broadway credits. The winner for the Frozen company was Jeremy Davis.
As BroadwayWorld sadly reported yesterday, Broadway star Jan Maxwell passed away at 61 years of age after a battle with cancer. The star is survived by her husband, actor/playwright Robert Emmet Lunney, and their son William Maxwell-Lunney.

As BroadwayWorld sadly reported earlier this week, Marni Nixon, perhaps best known for dubbing the singing voices of the leading actresses in films, including THE KING AND I, WEST SIDE STORY and MY FAIR LADY, passed away from breast cancer on July 24th. She was 86.
