In 2017, I was fortunate enough to have attended the Tony Awards. Rachel Bay Jones was among the winners that night for her performance as Heidi in Dear Evan Hansen. On July 7th, I saw her perform in person for the very first time.

After performing to sold-out houses for four weeks of previews this fall, The Never Too Late Show starring Don Reed, an inspirational comic tale about never giving up, will return to The Marsh Berkeley for a full run.

Screenings will kick off with the Opening Night presentation of Mark Fletcher’s Patrick and the Whale, followed by the Centerpiece Selections of Ben Klein and Violet Columbus’ The Exiles and Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes, with Kathlyn Horan’s The Return of Tanya Tucker – Featuring Brandi Carlile screening on Closing Night.

According to a Deadline article, acclaimed costume and set designer Tony Walton has passed away at the age of 87. He died on March 2nd from issues related to a stroke. Bridget LeRoy, his stepdaughter, released the news of his death on Facebook, writing, “A fond and loving farewell to the most fabulous stepdad and human being in the world. Love you forever, Tony Walton. Have a great trip.”

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!

PS CLASSICS has announced the release of Maury Sings Yeston: The Demos to commemorate the 75th Birthday of Tony Award—winning composer Maury Yeston. The album is now available as a 2-disc CD set in stores and online. It was released in digital and streaming formats earlier this season.

TheatreZone, a nonprofit, 501(c)3 professional theatre performing in-residence at the G&L Theatre on the Community School of Naples campus, today announced its 2020-21 Showstopper Series as part of its Sweet 16 Season. 

Today we rewind to 2018, when Encores brought Grand Hotel back to the stage. Originally produced under the title At the Grand (1958), with a score by Robert Wrightand George Forrest and book by Luther Davis, the production was revitalized in 1989 by director-choreographer Tommy Tune, with additional music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, for a Tony Award-winning run on Broadway.
