Elf - The Musical is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. Buddy is raised unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and his step-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. Coming to Houston after two huge seasons on Broadway, this musical delight is joyous fun for the whole family!

Although it doesn't quite capture the distinctly quirky humor of the beloved Christmas movie, you'd have to be a cotton-headed ninny-muggins — or at least a real Scrooge — not to at least smile at the seasonal antics of "Elf the Musical."

Ducat’s boundless energy makes ELF extra cheery in this national tour. On the whole, I thought Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin’s book was more distinctive than Matthew Skylar and Chad Beguelin’s songs. Meehan and Martin capture the film’s “sincere with a wink” energy in the spoken dialogue. Beguelin’s lyrics are functional, but mainly forgettable.

Elf the Musical, an adaptation of the hit film starring Will Ferrell, has returned to the West End for the Christmas season, with Joel Montague taking on the role of Buddy the Elf. The show follows Buddy as he leaves the North Pole to find his human father after discovering that he is actually not an elf like everyone else.
