Prince of Wales Theatre
(Piccadilly Circus) Coventry Street London

Based on the television film

"Her name was Lola. She was a showgirl..." Barry Manilow's Grammy Award-winning song you never forgot is now brought to life onstage!brbrA love letter to the Technicolor musicals of the 1940s, "Barry Manilow's Copacabana" presents the story of Lola as told through the eyes of Stephen, a present day aspiring songwriter whose imagination takes him back to a time when "music and passion were always in fashion." brbrHe dreams up Lola, fresh off the plane from Tulsa, who arrives in New York with show-biz aspirations. Tony (who looks amazingly like Stephen!) is a bartender/composer who falls in love with Lola and helps her become a Copa girl. While performing, Lola attracts the amorous attentions of Rico (who wears a diamond). Rico abducts Lola and takes her to his rival nightclub in Havana. Tony, with the help of his Copacabana friends, must now rescue Lola before...well, even if you know the song, there are still a few surprises!

Review: REVIEW: DISNEY'S NEWSIES at Southern Theatre by Paul Batterson - Sep 26, 2022

What did our critic think of REVIEW: DISNEY’S NEWSIES at Southern Theatre? Aristotle is credited with coming up with the phrase, 'the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.' Had he witnessed the Columbus Children Theatre's production of DISNEY'S NEWSIES, the philosopher may have reversed the quotation to 'the parts are greater than the sum of the whole.' An energetic cast, sharp management by director Joe Deer and choreographer Vincent Sylvester, and tight orchestration by musical director Lara Brooks lifted a cheesy musical to stellar heights.

Review: A DIFFERENT STAGE, Duke Of York's Theatre by Cindy Marcolina - Sep 2, 2022

A Different Stage contextualises the Gary Barlow the tabloids know, giving him the chance to be at the forefront of his own version of the story whilst reconfirming him as an exceptional entertainer. Sure, it’s biased and obviously made to make him look good, but it’s heartfelt and authentic. Mostly, it’s a bloody great show that will appease the superfans and mellow the sceptics.

Dear Readers, I think it’s time for me to come out to you all. I am here to say that I am an out and proud fan of Barry Manilow. Yes, I’m a Fanilow. From “Mandy” to “American Bandstand” to “I Made it Through the Rain”, I love them all. And, of course, there’s the best, “Copacabana”. Now take that fandom and combine it with my love for Seattle’s Can Can and you’d think their current show would be a sure-fire hit. And you’d be right. “Lola” the latest incarnation from Artistic Director Chris Pink, Choreographer Fae Pink, the delicious folks at the Can Can is not only a hit but one of the best shows I think I’ve ever seen from them (and that’s saying something) and one not to be missed.
