Based on the novel Candide by Voltaire

El joven protagonista, Cándide, de bien expresivo nombre, practica un optimismo ciego guiado por su tutor, el Doctor Pangloss, que le asegura que todo es para bien en el mejor de los mundos posibles. Llevando a su bien sonante novia, Cunegunda, de la mano, y al referido Doctor Pangloss, Cándide viaja a Lisboa, París, Buenos Aires y hasta al mítico El Dorado, descubriendo a su paso la maldad, la bajeza, la envidia, el sufrimiento y hasta el crimen. A prince's quest to prove his worth and rescue his beloved leads to a fantastic adventure filled with danger and mysticism in the Metropolitan Opera's holiday presentation of Mozart's The Magic Flute, with performances December 19, 2018 to January 5, 2019. This English-language adaptation of the classic fairy tale, performed in a 100-minute version of the Met's popular production by visionary theater artist Julie Taymor, is the perfect introduction to opera for the whole family, as well as a holiday treat for those who are already admirers of Mozart. NYCO & NYTF To Produce World Premiere Of DEAR ERICH

New York City Opera has announced that it will produce the world premiere of the award-winning jazz composer/pianist Ted Rosenthal's DEAR ERICH.  This new jazz opera, to be co-produced with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, will open Wednesday, January 9 and will play four performances only through Sunday, January 13 at the Edmond J. Safra Hall at 36 Battery Place, in lower Manhattan. (more...)
