Songwriter Hall of Fame member Don McLean has amassed a plethora of albums throughout his 50-year career, which began in 1969, and quickly soared his status to stardom with the 1971 release of American Pie. Now, in 2020, many of the recordings which has been unavailable on any digital platform will soon be released through a new recording and distribution agreement with Time Life, which is distributed through the WEA/Warner Bros. distribution system.

The Cleveland Institute of Music announced yesterday that acclaimed conductor, composer and educator Michael Tilson Thomas will be awarded an honorary doctorate at the school's 95th Commencement Ceremony in Kulas Hall on Saturday, May 16 at 10am EDT. Attendance is by invitation only, but a live stream will be available via cim.edu. Yesterday's announcement was given at a special MTT-led rehearsal of the CIM Orchestra at Severance Hall, home of The Cleveland Orchestra, which MTT also conducts February 20-23.

Australian metal band Parkway Drive will set stages afire on their largest headlining tour to date in North America this summer. The tour will kick-off on August 21 in Sacramento, CA and wrap September 17 in Irving, TX. Tickets will go on sale Friday, February 21 at 10am local time. We've Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered, the definitive celebration of the seminal brother and sister duo The Carpenters in words and music, will combine its acclaimed touring show with an orchestra for the first time when it arrives at the North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center on Saturday April 18. 

Toronto's PUP released their massive new album Morbid Stuff last year to critical acclaim, earning countless year-end nods, a slot on the upcoming Coachella lineup (their debut!), and a largely sold-out world tour that had them on the road for a solid 9 months. Today, the band shares a video for the album's title track that gives us a glimpse at their live show, but from the fan's perspective. The new video for “Morbid Stuff” was recorded live and shot on cheap, hand-held cameras that were given out to 19 gig-goers that the band personally connected with in advance of their recent London dates. This video continues PUP's longstanding tradition of putting their fans first, like when they asked fans to record their own version of “Free At Last” without ever even hearing the song and only knowing the lyrics and chords, or when PUP leaked the news of their latest album and new song “Kids,” via a zine sent to fans through their Little Dipper label imprint. The “Morbid Stuff” video, which premiered yesterday across the nineteen fans' social media accounts, showcases the sweat-stained euphoria of the band's show and once again captures the unique bond between PUP and the people that come to see them live, screaming every word.

Acclaimed guitar virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela won the GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album at the 62nd GRAMMY Awards ceremony yesterday. The award was given for Rodrigo y Gabriela's latest album METTALVOLUTION, (ATO) their fifth studio album and first in five years. It was the duo's first-ever Grammy win. Rodrigo y Gabriela have been traveling the world in support of METTAVOLUTION, and are announcing new tour dates with a performance at the Majestic Theatre (224 E. Houston St.) in San Antonio, TX on Wednesday, March 11 at 8:00 PM. Tickets go on sale this Friday, January 31, at 11:00 AM.

La Jolla Playhouse has announced the final two productions for its 2020/2021 season: the world premieres of to the yellow house, by Kimber Lee (tokyo fish story), directed by former Playhouse Associate Artistic Director Neel Keller (School for Wives, Light Up the Sky), running July 14 - August 9; and Guilty Pleasure, by Paul Rudnick (Jeffrey; screenplays for Sister Act, In & Out), directed by Christopher Ashley (Come From Away, Diana), the Rich Family Artistic Director of La Jolla Playhouse. Produced in association with Diversionary Theatre, Guilty Pleasure will run November 8 - December 6.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. The 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards are presented by Gilead, Hyundai, and Ketel One Family-Made Vodka.

Now in its seventh year, Northern Stage's New Works Now festival will feature three new plays, January 10 and 11 at the Barrette Center for the Arts. The Northern Stage Artistic team, including Producing Artistic Director Carol Dunne and BOLD Associate Artistic Director & New Works Now Producer Jess Chayes, reached out to writers and artists in the Northern Stage community and read dozens of unproduced plays, selecting three to be workshopped with professional actors and directors for one week, culminating in a public festival of free staged readings.

Ford's Theatre Society announced full casting and the design team for Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson, a captivating play based on the life of trail-blazing astronomer Henrietta Leavitt. The Ford's Theatre production is directed by Seema Sueko and features Laura C. Harris (Arena Stage's The Heiress, Signature Theatre's The Flick) as Henrietta Leavitt, Nora Achrati as Annie Jump Cannon, Emily Kester as Margaret Leavitt, Jonathan David Martin as Peter Shaw and Holly Twyford as Williamina Fleming. Performances are January 24 to February 23, 2020. A media performance is scheduled for January 29, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

Gordon's latest work is the musical a?oePride and Prejudicea?? soon to start its world premiere run at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley. He has formed a close relationship with the company over the years, including hit productions of his shows a?oeJane Eyre,a?? a?oeEmma,a?? a?oeBeing Earnest,a?? and a?oeDaddy Long Legs.a?? Interestingly, Gordon initially found success as a composer of pop music writing for, and collaborating with, numerous recording artists, including Bette Midler, Quincy Jones, Alanis Morissette, Smokey Robinson and Dionne Warwick. An abiding love for musical theater led to a fortuitous meeting with esteemed director John Caird that opened up a whole new career for Gordon. BroadwayWorld caught up with him while he was still in the thick of the rehearsal process for his new show, which can be a very stressful time. In conversation, Gordon appeared surprisingly calm as he chatted about the development of a?oePride and Prejudicea?? and his plans to build new audiences for musical theater.

La Jolla Playhouse announces four of six productions for its 2020/2021 season, including the world premieres of Bhangin' It, book by Mike Lew (Tiger Style!) and Rehana Lew Mirza (DNA New Work Series' Child of Colonialism), music and lyrics by Sam Willmott, directed by Amy Anders Corcoran, co-produced with McCarter Theatre Center; and Mother Russia, by UC San Diego MFA alumna Lauren Yee (Cambodian Rock Band), directed by Tyne Rafaeli (The Coast Starlight); along with What the Constitution Means to Me, the acclaimed work by Pulitzer Prize finalist Heidi Schreck, directed by Oliver Butler; and the previously-announced, Broadway-bound musical Lempicka, book and lyrics by Carson Kreitzer, music by Matt Gould, directed by 2019 Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin (Broadway's Hadestown).
