The Howard County Arts Council is pleased to announce the guest performers for the 22nd Annual Celebration of the Arts in Howard County gala. Featured this year are Misako Ballet Company; The Young Columbians; Ana Lane and Lindsey Litka; last year's Rising Star Award winner, Junghoon Park; and accompanist Patricia Hammer. You can catch them, along with the six finalists in the Arts Council's Rising Star Performing Arts Competition, at the Celebration gala on March 23, 2019 at 8 p.m. Emcee for the event is Joseph Ritsch, Producing Artistic Director for Rep Stage.

Olney Theatre Center continues its record-breaking 81st season with Ken Ludwig's A Comedy of Tenors on the Mainstage, running April 10 to May 12, 2019. Jason King Jones, Olney Theatre's Senior Associate Artistic Director and Artistic Director of National Players helms the production. Jones most recently directed Annie. Stages Repertory Theatre is excited to present a brand new production of the iconic musical, Little Shop of Horrors. The sci-fi cult classic is slated for an 8-week run beginning March 6 in Stages' Yeager Theatre.

Using anecdotes from Johnny's autobiography, multiple interviews, live concerts and documentaries, Scott tells Johnny's story with the artist's own words and songs. Featuring more than 20 songs from Johnny's 40+ years in the music business , Scott creates a stripped down look into the life of this American icon.

Alison Whitehurst was born in Sugar Land, Texas. The daughter of a professional pianist, she was exposed to music at a very early age, tagging along and watching her father play gigs from backstage. She would often sit and experiment with him at the piano and played herself for nine years. After her parents divorce, Whitehurst transferred to a new middle school. Her mother recommended she sign up for a theatre class to help her make friends. She was cast in her first musical in eighth grade, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, and thought to herself, 'wait a second! I'm going to sing AND do this fun new theatre thing at the same time?!' She continued on through high school and never looked back, earning a BFA in Theatre Performance from Texas Christian University. Whitehurst is currently on tour as Cynthia Weil in BEAUTIFUL - THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL. I had the chance to chat with her just prior to the tour's stop in Montreal.

New Village Arts announces a change in programming for its eighteenth season. NVA had previously announced a summer production of the West Coast premiere of BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE, but due to staffing changes and material challenges, NVA has made the difficult decision to cancel the production.
