The Hungarian State Opera Orchestra is the oldest theatre orchestra in Hungary. Due to the vast selection of performances offered by the Opera, it is the most employed Hungarian symphony orchestra. Its roots reach back as far as 1838, when Ferenc Erkel, the father of the Hungarian national opera as a genre organised an opera orchestra for the Hungarian Theatre of Pest. The orchestra moved into their present home, the Opera House after its inauguration in 1884 and was presided over by notable principal music directors including Gustav Mahler.

On the eve of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra's (MMFO) opening performances at the 2019 Mostly Mozart Festival, Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss has announced that Lincoln Center has extended the contract of Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director Louis Langree through the summer of 2023. Langree has held the position since 2003, fostering the Festival Orchestra's profile as an established ensemble and steadfast presence on the Lincoln Center campus, furthering its scope of repertoire beyond music of the classical era, and heightening its reputation as one of America's premier chamber orchestras. Langree made his Mostly Mozart Festival debut in 1998 and began his tenure as music director in 2003. 2023 will be his twenty-first season in the role. Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) continues its Spring 2019 season on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 7:30pm with a performance by St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble +Adam Rosenblatt, percussionist, at BAC's Jerome Robbins Theater (450 W. 37th Street). Rosenblatt will perform Belgian composer Thierry de Mey's theatrical and dramatic piece Light Music, in which movements and gestures produce light and sound through interactive technology. Titled Milestones, this celebration of CMS's 50thanniversary will feature the most expansive presentation of chamber music in its history - from its beginnings up to today - through worldwide performances, numerous educational initiatives, and a multi-media exhibition at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Singer/conductor Barbara Hannigan Makes Her New York Conducting Debut With The Juilliard Orchestra in works by Strauss, Haydn, Debussy, Sibelius, and Bartok on Friday, February 8, 2019, at 7:30pm in Alice Tully Hall. The program features Strauss' "Salome's Dance" from Salome, Op. 54; Haydn's Symphony No. 96 in D Major, Hob. I:96, ("The Miracle"); Debussy's Syrinx (flute soloist to be announced); Sibelius' Luonnatar, Op. 70, with Juilliard soprano Meghan Kasanders; and Bartok's Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin. Hannigan made her debut as a conductor in 2011 at the Chatelet in Paris with Stravinsky's Renard; the soprano has been dividing her time between singing and conducting ever since.
The original cast of Broadway's Indecent reunited to record the music for the Tony Award-winning production. The recording, which will be released on January 25 by Yellow Sound Label, preserves the haunting and evocative original music for the show, composed by Lisa Gutkin and Aaron Halva, as well as the period songs that were heard throughout the production.
The Growing Stage, The Children's Theatre of New Jersey kicks off the holiday season with its original musical production of 'Babes in Toyland' from November 23 to December 16.The show was conceived by the company's Founder and Executive Director, Stephen L. Orchestra of St. Luke's Carnegie Hall 32nd-annual series concerts commences this season on October 25 in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, marking the official start of Bernard Labadie's tenure as Principal Conductor of the Orchestra. Bernard Labadie and OSL have chosen Haydn as the theme for his inaugural season, showcasing the Ensemble's strong affinity for this composer. Curated with an eye to interesting musical juxtapositions, the series will offer a variety of perspectives on Haydn's music and influence.
For his inaugural season as Principal Conductor of Orchestra of St. Luke's, Bernard Labadie has curated a three-concert residency at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage-marking the 32nd year of the OSL series at Carnegie Hall-with a focus on the music and influence of Joseph Haydn. The first concert today, October 25 at 8:00 p.m., which pairs Haydn's "Nelson Mass" with Mozart's Requiem, K. 626 (revised and completed by Robert Levin), marks OSL's first collaboration with La Chapelle de Quebec, the choir founded and directed by Maestro Labadie.
