Ballroom is a musical with a book by Jerome Kass and music by Billy Goldenberg and lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman.



Based on Kass's teleplay for the 1975 Emmy Award-winning television drama Queen of the Stardust Ballroom, the plot focuses on lonely widow Bea Asher, who becomes romantically involved with Alfred Rossi, a mail carrier she meets at the local dance hall. Her dream of a happily-ever-after relationship is shattered when she discovers Alfred hasn't been as honest about his personal life as she thought.

X Announces Additional Summer Tour Dates

The iconic punk rock band, X, have announced additional dates to be added to their spring/summer tour plans. Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake will join The Damnedfor two co-headline dates; in Chicago on May 30, as well as an appearance at the Orange County Fair in California on July 6.  Additional summer tour dates announced below will feature an exciting variety of supporting acts such as Dead Rock West, Skating Polly, Folk Ukeand the Reverend Horton Heat.  All of this in addition to the joint tours already announced with Violent Femmes in May, Squeeze in September and additional dates still to be announced in the near future!

The Art Institute of Chicago presents Sex, an exhibition with new works by Anne Imhof (b. 1978, Giessen) that opens to the public on May 30, and will include three days of live performances through June 1. Imhof has emerged as one of the most provocative and pioneering voices of her generation. Her work establishes a new paradigm for exhibitions and gives form to a sense of alienation and detachment that increasingly shapes our society. Sex shows the wide range of attitudes present in Imhof's practice, as the exhibition moves from a choreographed performance during its first days, to an installation including sculpture, painting and sound in the weeks that follow.

The month kicks off with local songstress Melveen Leed and the return of the Honolulu Jazz Quartet presenting a Tribute to Bird & Dizzy: The Birth of Bebop. Directed byTabbert Fiiller and released by Abramorama, the film will make its North American theatrical premiere on Friday, September 14 in New York City at Metrograph with more theatrical dates in October-November to coincide with PiL's North American fall tour. Today, Saintseneca has announced a new album titled Pillar of Na, with its glistening lead single, 'Frostbiter.' NPR, who premiered the song on the All Songs Considered blog, is saying 'For Saintseneca, fatalistic gloom blends seamlessly with a kind of playful sprightliness: Zac Little's songs often simmer in a sad swirl of death and esoterica, but his deadpan ruminations are buoyed by the sounds of exotic instruments, candy-colored pop hooks and many points in between.'
