Blank Stage Theater presents The Yellow Wallpaper, performing at the Slate Theater, March 17-25, 2017. Combining the original novella’s text with two new stories, this adaptation of The Yellow Wallpaper reveals how women struggle to be seen, heard, and believed–and at what cost. A 19th century woman suffering from post-partum depression, a WWII war-bride adjusting to a new life when her husband returns home, and a current-day blogger with a shot at writing a real book all live in the same room at different moments in history. Trapped in their respective lives and tormented by the uncertainty of what lies behind the haunting wallpaper pattern, the three women battle against everyday oppressions and microaggressions to maintain not only their identities, but their sanity. Juxtaposing the original 1892 text with storylines from 1945 and 2017, this production of The Yellow Wallpaper aims to shine a light on a story that repeats and replays throughout history.
