Seattle Theatre Group's Neptune Theatre Celebrates 100 Years

Seattle landmark, The Neptune Theatre, with its glowing, hypnotic underwater décor and hum of continual activity, will be one hundred years old in November. Seattle Theatre Group, who runs the theatre, is gearing up to celebrate with the community that continues to be the heartbeat of this beautifully unique, historic venue. In additional to the excitement of the landmark's centennial, STG is also reveling in its tenth year of presenting live entertainment at the Neptune.

After nineteen long months, The Paramount Theater welcomed the cast and crew of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR to its stage, and the Seattle audience welcomed them into their hearts. The mood was heightened and the air electric as patrons entered the theater after showing their vaccination documentation. Although masked, the smiles sparkled in the eyes as the crowd gathered in anticipation of sharing a journey of storytelling and music. From the first note to the last, the audience was held in rapt attention as we all remembered the unmatched joy of watching live theater.

The 1970’s and early 80’s had a lot to set it apart but nothing more than the three D’s, Disco, Disease, and Denial. Even as the Gay rights movement was starting to put LGBT folks into the spotlight, their very existence was threatened by an insidious plague that seemed to target only them (mostly gay men), AIDS and HIV. A plague that was largely unmentioned by the country's administration. But they still found moments of exuberance and freedom within the Disco clubs. And this is what “amber”, an installation from Washington Ensemble Theatre aims to explore.

The 18,000 square-foot outdoor facility located in a span of public right-of-way between 5th Ave N and Taylor Ave along Thomas St, is primed to provide an outstanding, multi-level skateboarding experience. It replaces Seattle Center Skatepark, which closed in 2018.
