One of the most popular shows at the festival is back after selling out its previous three years and accumulating a Fringe fan-base that has never been seen before (well, maybe by this other improv musical group Baby Wants Candy, but that’s another press release…)
Based on a little-heard-of off-Broadway musical called Hamilton, this hour of completely unchoreographed choreography and unrehearsed hip-hop delights has become THE smash-hit sensation of the festival and often opens nightly to endless queues and closes to standing ovations. They also toured the show post-Fringe last year to sell-out venues across the UK.
At the opening of the show, the audience decide a historical figure/celebrity on which the hour will be based (so choose carefully!) and the talented cast and their excellent band The Shamiltones entirely improvise a never-to-be-seen-again musical; the songs, the dialogue, the plot… even the choreography. A new night, a new character, so each show is completely different to the next, bringing fans back several times throughout the month. What other show at the Fringe can boast such a feat? (Well, maybe this other improv musical group Baby Wants Candy, but that’s another press release…)
A now Fringe institution and one of the most popular and critically acclaimed international comedy improv ensembles, Baby Wants Candy were the team behind international smash-hits Thrones! The Musical (which had a month’s run at the Sydney Opera House) and 50 Shades! (which went on to be performed in 10 different languages). They have launched the careers of various top comedic actors and writers in the US including Craig Cackowski (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development), Jack McBrayer (Kenneth in 30 Rock), Vanessa Bayer and Aidy Bryant (Saturday Night Live), Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s Silicon Valley), Chris Grace (Superstore), John Hartman (Ghosts) and Ross Bryant (The Good Place). They have sold out every single Fringe run since they started in 2010 and Shamilton still continues to sell out shows throughout the States from Chicago to New York to LA to Washington DC…
Don’t miss out this summer and be “in the room where it happens”!
