Do Not Pass Go, created and performed by Melanie Jordan and directed by Caitlin Skinner of theatre company Jordan & Skinner, tells the story of Lizzie Magie, the uncredited inventor of the board game that became Monopoly. Magie designed "The Landlord's Game" with two sets of rules intended to challenge land monopoly and illustrate wealth distribution, but her game was taken by Charles Darrow, who repurposed it and became the first millionaire games designer in history. Using clown, physical theatre, dance, British Sign Language, and spoken English, the show uses Magie's story to examine why women continue to be disadvantaged by economic systems and why alternatives to the status quo remain difficult to imagine. The production is Jordan & Skinner's first show fully accessible to deaf audiences, with integrated BSL performed by a cast member.
