Albatross at BEAM, Hertfordshire

Albatross, written by George Devine and Bruntwood Prize winner Martha Loader and directed by Patrick Morris, is a new play commissioned by Menagerie Theatre. Rooted in two years of research and interviews with Antarctic researchers, the play follows glaciologist Alice (Caroline Rippin) and her mother Eve (Agnes Lillis) as they navigate unspoken truths and an unasked favour when Alice returns home in the middle of the night from her latest stint in Antarctica. Set against the backdrop of the climate emergency, the play examines what one generation owes the next, exploring the weight of intergenerational stewardship through the lens of a mother-daughter relationship.
