Albatross, written by George Devine and Bruntwood Prize winner Martha Loader and directed by Patrick Morris, is a new play commissioned by Menagerie Theatre rooted in two years of research and interviews with Antarctic researchers. The play centers on glaciologist Alice (Caroline Rippin) and her mother Eve (Agnes Lillis), who has been caring for Alice's daughter Alba while Alice works in Antarctica. When Alice returns home in the middle of the night, she is met with unexpected changes — including catastrophic floods and a new romance — and unspoken secrets between mother and daughter come to a head. Albatross examines intergenerational responsibility and the costs of trying to do what's right, both within a family and in the face of the climate emergency.
