Five short plays, culled from 100 submitted by playwrights from throughout the United States, will premiere at the Jane B. Cook Theater at the FSU Center for the Performing Arts, 5555 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. (The Cook Theatre is in the building that houses AsoloRep, the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, and the Sarasota Ballet.)
This is an adjudicated festival. The five plays are vying for The Verna Safran Prize and $1,000.00. The three judges, selected for their abilities and reputations in the theater arts, do not simply make their decision based upon watching the plays performed, but from their careful reading of the scripts from which these five plays are produced. Their decision is announced live, immediately following the Sunday, October 19th, 2 p.m. performance. There will be two prior performances on October 18, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. All five plays are presented at each performance.
