Review: HONKY TONK ANGEL'S at Florida Studio Theatre
"HONKY TONK ANGELS" is playing at Florida Studio Theatre through June 21st.
Florida Studio Theatre brings in great spirits with their new main stage show “HONKY TONK ANGELS”. Through a story line filled with humor and heart, this production weaves together 30 beloved country classics to tell the tale of three spirited women on a mission to chase their dreams in Nashville. From melodies such as “I'll Fly Away” and “Stand by Your Man” to the empowering anthems like “9 to 5” this show guarantees a toe-tapping good time!
On a stage constructed from solid, seasoned wood, which served as the perfect canvas for their performance, the band bursts into life and is on stage for the entire show. With a skillful fiddler(Dina Bikzhanova), a maestro on the upright piano, a rhythmic drummer, and a multi-talented guitarist(Sam Saint Ours), these three women are poised for their meteoric ascent. The show doesn't hesitate to launch into action, with the audience erupting in applause and enthusiastic revelry right from the beginning of the show! And thus, the captivating journey of audience involvement begins, with spectators joining in the revelry, dancing, and basking in the glow of being serenaded directly by the performers—truly a spectacle of pure, unadulterated joy throughout the theatre!
Alexandra Melrose, in her role as Angela, exudes a mix of pizzazz and flare as she embodies the character of a devoted housewife caring for six children and an unhelpful husband. Paired with her companions, Hannah Taylor portraying Darlene, a woman balancing the duties of caring for her aging parents while craving a much-needed break, and Hailie Lucille as a professional yearning to escape her overbearing boss and mother, these women are vibrant on stage.
Their individual talents are undeniable, each one possessing the vocal prowess of a leading lady. However, it is when these three powerhouse performers join forces that true magic unfolds. Their harmonies blend seamlessly, creating a sound where their voices become indistinguishable. Though hailing from distinct backgrounds, the shared narrative of these three runaway women resonates deeply with the audience, appealing to the inner spirit of every woman who has ever dreamt of breaking free, if only for a short while.
"HONKY TONK ANGELS" is simply a delightful and heartwarming production that cleverly weaves together a mix of old and new songs. Even if you're not typically a fan of country music, you'll find yourself thoroughly entertained by this show. It's guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and have you laughing along with your fellow theatergoers. Don't pass up the chance to experience this unforgettable musical that is filled with laughter, empowerment, and just the right amount of twang!
"HONKY TONK ANGELS" is playing at Florida Studio Theatre through June 21st. Tickets are still available for Matinee and Evening shows at Honky Tonk Angels - Florida Studio Theatre.
