The Justice Is Just Asleep, a new play by Ruben Grijalva, follows two Supreme Court clerks as they navigate a crisis when their Justice unexpectedly slumps over her desk just hours before a pivotal ruling. Set against a backdrop of protestors outside the courthouse, the clerks engage in a darkly comedic struggle to buy time and decide what to do next. The staged reading, directed by Susi Damilano, features performances by Gianna DiGregorio Rivera, Rolanda D. Bell, Jacob Henrie-Naffaa, Catherine Castellanos, and Victor Talmadge, with stage directions read by Marie-Claire Erdynast. The play humorously grapples with complex moral questions surrounding justice and institutional integrity in contemporary society.
