California Theatre Conservatory presents THE FANTASTICKS, the beloved musical by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, for four performances only at The Playhouse in San Anselmo over Labor Day weekend.

Funny, romantic, moving and deceptively simple, The Fantasticks tells the story of two young people who fall in love, discover that love is more complicated than they imagined, and ultimately find their way back to one another with a deeper understanding of themselves and each other.

The legendary score includes "Try to Remember," "Soon It's Gonna Rain," "Much More," "They Were You," and other musical theatre favorites.

AN INTIMATE THEATRE EXPERIENCE

CTC's production embraces the imaginative simplicity that has made The Fantasticks so enduring: actors, music, storytelling and the audience sharing the same intimate theatrical space.

Rather than a large-scale mainstage production, The Fantasticks is being presented by CTC as an advanced developmental project, giving a select group of accomplished young performers the opportunity to take the next step toward collegiate and pre-professional musical theatre training.

The result is a production centered on acting, storytelling, musicality, ensemble work and genuine connection with the audience.

For audiences who love discovering emerging young talent, this is a chance to see these artists up close in a musical that rewards honesty, imagination and beautifully detailed performances.

A MUSICAL THEATRE CLASSIC

With book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, The Fantasticks first opened in New York in 1960 and became an extraordinary part of American theatre history.

Its remarkable longevity comes from something remarkably simple: a story about love, youth, disappointment, parents, growing up—and learning that sometimes we don't fully appreciate what we have until we've lost it.

At turns hilarious, tender and bittersweet, The Fantasticks reminds us why a nearly bare stage, a beautiful melody and a great story can still create theatrical magic.
