Program 4: Virtuoso Visions – Sophia Liu features Canadian pianist Sophia Liu, who at 17 years old has already earned international recognition for her refined touch and expressive depth. A first prize winner at the Cooper International Competition at age 14, Liu has since performed with orchestras including the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, and Cleveland Orchestra, and appeared at venues such as Konzerthaus Berlin and Teatro La Fenice. Her program at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at De Anza College includes works by Chopin, Balakirev, and Liszt, balancing lyrical sensitivity with dazzling virtuosity. Critics have praised her playing as "extremely clear, delicate, refined and almost supernaturally fluid" and noted her "phenomenal virtuosity."
