Takes All Kinds is Dan Hoyle's newest piece of journalistic theater, a funny, urgent, and deeply human portrait of American democracy in turbulent times. Drawing from immersive reporting across the country, Hoyle brings to life the voices of everyday people thrust into extraordinary civic moments, including a formerly conservative preacher's son turned Florida school-board activist, Atlanta voting-rights canvassers, and a former gang member in Missouri working to deprogram violent extremists. Directed by Aldo Billingslea and developed with Charlie Varon and Michael Moran, the 75-minute solo performance features Dan Hoyle as both actor and playwright. The show is the winner of the 2026 Bay Area Theater Critics Circle Award for Solo Performance.
