‘SOUTH’ is this fall’s intimate, can’t-miss new musical.

Writer & performer Florencia Iriondo is accompanied by an acoustic, two-piece band in this heartwarming show that combines storytelling and evocative South American folk-pop music. The 2023 Pipeline Awards First Prize Winner for New Musical Theater, ‘SOUTH’ will make you feel nostalgic for the place —and time— called home.

Developed in residency at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center and New York Stage & Film, and shaped at the BMI Musical Theater Workshop, ‘SOUTH’ comes to Soho Playhouse for a strictly limited run, following sold-out performances at Nuyorican Poets Cafe and 54 Below.

‘SOUTH’ is produced, in part, with funds from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Pipeline Arts Foundation First Prize Award for New Musical Theater.

Cast

Florencia Iriondo
Writer & Performer
Iriondo is an artist-in-residence at New York Stage and Film, The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, a lyricist at the Tony-Honored BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Advanced Workshop, a Lower Manhattan Culture Council and NYC Department of Cultural Affairs Creative Engagement grant recipient, and a member of The Dramatists Guild. First Prize Winner of the 2023 Pipeline Arts Awards for New Musical Theater. Former Founding Executive Producer & Showrunner at LinkedIn Studios.
Federico Diaz
Music Director & guitarist
Born in Mendoza, Argentina, Díaz’s passion for chamber music, tango, and folklore led him to collaborate with Lionel Cottet, Philippe Quint, Daniel Binelli, and Juan Falú. The most recent project with Juana Luna was a collaboration with the NY Philharmonic Bandwagon Series. The piece “Erial” with Rodrigo Aranjuelo’s group Future Natives was choreographed for the ABT Incubator project in April 2021. Federico studied at the University Mozarteum Salzburg with Eliot Fisk and at Manhattan School of Music with David Starobin. Recently, he completed the highly selective Doctor ́s Degree in Performance, at the Graduate Center CUNY under the guidance of Frederic Hand.
Agustin Uriburu
Cellist & guitarist
Latin Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn-based, Argentinian cellist, guitarist, composer, and arranger. He leads the Agustin Uriburu Quartet and often collaborates with Puerto Rican Grammy-winning rapper Residente, recording in the Latin Grammy-winning song ‘Antes Que el Mundo se Acabe’ and his latest record with Ricky Martin. Other collaborations include Uri Caine; violinist Mark Feldman; former Piazzolla´s and Pugliese´s bandoneon-player Daniel Binelli; jazz pianist Leo Genovese; Yotam Ben-Or Quartet, Jaime Lozano’s Songs by an Immigrant and Frida, the Musical; and Jonas Brothers on Broadway.
