Maiden Phoenix Theatre Company is proud to present its inaugural show, Playhouse Creatures by April DeAngelis. This riveting play explores the struggles, endurance, and hope of the first actresses on the stage in the English Restoration. It explores the lives they lived and the trials they overcame, gracing the stage as the first women permitted to perform Shakespeare's heroines in the 1660s. This heartfelt, sometimes bawdy, portrayal features famous figures of the 17th century, including Doll Common, Mary Betterton, and the Earl of Rochester.
Featuring Maureen Adduci (2014 Elliot Norton Award Winner), Christine Power, Janelle Mills, Emma Goodman, Emily White, Caroline Rose Markham, Dan Prior, and David Berger-Jones.
