La Guagua 47: A Philadelphia Musical is a new bilingual musical written by Puerto Rican composer and lyricist Alba Martínez and directed by Laurie Woolery, presented as a one-night-only free staged reading by Philadelphia Theatre Company. The story follows fifteen-year-old Lucía, uprooted from Jayuya, Puerto Rico after her father's factory closes, who finds community among strangers on Philadelphia's SEPTA 47 bus. The score blends salsa, bolero, bachata, bomba, and reggaetón with contemporary musical theater, performed in both English and Spanish. The cast includes Vanesa Gomez, Camille Halais, Robi Hager, Taysha Marie Canales, Victor Rodriguez Jr., Daniel L. Melo, and Evan Hilborn, with music supervision by Alejandro Senior and music direction by Nicolas Perez.
