The Muny's current production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella is definitely not Walt Disney's Cinderella. It is nothing like Perrault's or the Grimm Brothers' Cinderella. It's not even pure Rodgers & Hammerstein, but rather a 2013 adaptation based on Rodgers & Hammerstein with a new book by Douglas Carter Beane. This musical holds the essence of your beloved fairytale but is infused (I must warn you upfront) with complicating new characters, a clumsy reordering of the original songs, and a conspicuous political subplot. The most beautiful thing in the world is a shoe at The Muny this weekend and into next week, as Kinky Boots, based on a 2005 film of the same name, takes the stage in its extraordinary St. Louis premiere after its six-year run on Broadway. There, it won multiple Tony awards, with a book by Harvey Feirstein and music and score by Cyndi Lauper, direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell (direction re-created for The Muny by DB Bonds and choreography by Rusty Mowery). With its many glitzy surprises and its variety of endearing and glamorous characters, this show will have you saying YEAH!

The world premiere of a new version of the Meredith Willson musical, THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN, is open at the Denver Center Theatre Company. Host of 'In Focus', Eden Lane learns about the project from the creative team Dick Scanlan and the Director/Choreographer Kathleen Marshall. Beth Malone (Molly Brown) and Burke Moses (J.J. The St. Louis Muny's cast of THE ADDAMS FAMILY, which ran from July 14th through 20th, created a video remix of Beyonce's 'Pretty Hurts.' The remix is very much in the style of the show itself, as each of the actors is clad in creepy, kooky, monster-like costumes.

In the WBT production of GEORGE M!, John Scherer, as George M. Cohan, is joined by a terrific cast including the 'Four Cohans': Jim Walton as George's father, Jerry, Melodie Wolford of Putnam Valley as George's mom, Nellie and Amanda Trusty as his sister, Josie. George's first wife, Ethel, is played by Laura Schutter and Jeanette Minson is Agnes, who becomes George's second wife. Katharine Heaton is Fay Templeton, Gary Lynch plays Sam Harris, Carol Schuberg plays Ma Templeton/Grimaldi. Check out highlights from the production in the video below!

Today in 2007, LoveMusik opened at the Biltmore Theatre (now the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre), where it ran for 60 performances. LoveMusik is a musical written by Alfred Uhry, using a selection of music by Kurt Weill. The story explores the romance and lives of Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya, based on Speak Low (When You Speak Love): The Letters of Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya. The show was directed by Harold Prince, with musical staging by Patricia Birch and starred Michael Cerveris as Kurt Weill, Donna Murphy as Lotte Lenya, David Pittu as Bertolt Brecht and John Scherer as George Davis.

Paper Mill Playhouse will open Boeing-Boeing, directed by James Brennan, this Sunday, January 22, 2012. The cast features: Anne Horak (Gretchen), Brynn O'Malley (Gabriella), Heather Parcells (Gloria), John Scherer (Robert), Matt Walton (Bernard) and Tony® Award-winner Beth Leavel (Berthe). The show began performances on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, and runs at the Millburn theater through Sunday, February 12, 2012.
