President Barack Obama was in New York City yesterday to begin fundraising for his 2012 re-election campaign. As part of the visit, he invited potential endorsers to a performance of SISTER ACT as part of an event hosted by producer Whoopi Goldberg. Tickets for the special performance and evening event ranged from $250 to $10,000 (the latter of which includes a photo shoot with the President). Transport Group Theatre Company, the winner of a special Drama Desk Award and two OBIE Awards, began previews for the New York premiere of Lysistrata Jones, a new musical with a book by Douglas Carter Beane, music and lyrics by Lewis Flinn, and directed and choreographed by Dan Knechtges on Sunday May 15 on the basketball court of the Judson Memorial Church Gymnasium. The show officially opens on Sunday, June 5.
