LA Opera presented the company premiere of Igor Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex at 2pm on Sunday, June 6, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. A special video presentation of the opera will subsequently stream on LA Opera's On Now digital platform, also free of charge, beginning later today, June 17.
Last season, Quinn Kelsey returned to the Metropolitan Opera as Germont in La Traviata and as Amonasro in Aida. He also returned to Zurich for the title role in Rigoletto and to Hawaii for more performances as Germont. He made debuts in Dallas as Ford in Falstaff and in Spain at the Peralada festival as Germont.
Dove Cameron will make her LA Opera debut in The Light in the Piazza, running from October 12 through 20, 2019, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. She will play the role of Clara Johnson, a young woman with a long-hidden secret that threatens her hopes of finding true love during a summer vacation through Italy. Opera superstar Renee Fleming will portray her mother, Margaret Johnson.
LA Opera presents Giacomo Puccini's thrilling masterpiece, Tosca, conducted by Music Director James Conlon. The final mainstage presentation of the company's 2016/17 season, Tosca is a revival of the production staged by the company in 2013, directed by Tony and Olivier Award winner John Caird. There will be seven performances from April 22 through May 13, taking place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles CA 90012).
General Director Plácido Domingo has announced final casting information for LA Opera's new production of Akhnaten by Philip Glass. A co-production with English National Opera, Akhnaten is conducted by Artist in Residence Matthew Aucoin and staged by British director Phelim McDermott. Check out a sneak peek below!
