Warsaw's Ester Rachel and Ida Kaminska State Jewish Theater to Make First NYC Appearance Since 1980s

The Shalom Foundation and New York's National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene, currently in its historic 100th season, will present The Ester Rachel and Ida Kaminska State Jewish Theater from Warsaw, Poland to New York audiences. This is the first time the Polish Yiddish Theater company, also known as The State Jewish Theater, has toured in North America since the 1980's.

Tony Award-winners Chita Rivera and Karen Ziemba, Norman Norman Jewison, Academy Award-winning director of the 1971 film version of Fiddler on the Roof (Irving Thalberg Award Recipient), and Ambassador Ido Aharoni, Counsul General of Israel, were just some of the stars who took part in Raising the Roof, an all-star benefit concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene, the 50th Anniversary of iconic American musical, Fiddler on the Roof, and the 90th birthday of its Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning lyricist, Sheldon Harnick, last night, June 9 at New York's The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street).

The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene just presented a remarkable concert event celebrating the folk legend and actor Theodore Bikel in anticipation of his 90th birthday in May 2014. 'Miracle of Miracles: A Chanukah Extravaganza' filled the stage at Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway, last night, December 2 with one rare musical treat after another. Featured in the all-star cast were the beloved Emmy-winning actor Fyvush Finkel, klezmer giant Frank London, the Russian concert phenomenon Psoy Korolenko and the Broadway actors Joanne Borts ('Once') and Elmore James, among many others.
