With The 19th Annual Festival of New Musicals taking place this upcoming weekend, Village Theatre is excited to announce the casting for XY, an uplifting musical about identity and coming to terms with your past; Cold Turkey, a wild and funny satire; Modern, an inspiring tale about a group of Amish teenagers; Eastbound, an poignant story about Chinese brothers in search of a home they've never known; and Cowboy Bob, an adventurous rock musical about a bank-robbing woman. The Festival will take place in Issaquah August 9-11, 2019 and provides an essential platform for writers to develop new works. Past Festival shows include Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning shows such as Next to Normal and Million Dollar Quartet, as well as Broadway and Off-Broadway hits: It Shoulda Been You, Desperate Measures, Lizzie, and many more. These electrifying, witty, powerful, complex and poignant songs explore a range of stories told by the ones who are meant to tell it- songs about matters pertaining to race and just plain ol' humanity! Pan Asian Repertory Theatre (Tisa Chang, Founding Artistic Producing Director), breaking new ground through a new educational initiative and reaching out to elementary grade students and families with children, launches the 2018-2019 season with the New York premiere of the play The Emperor's Nightingale, by Damon Chua. Directed by Chongren Fan, the six-member cast features Leanne Cabrera, Ya Han Chang, Dinh James Doan,Jonathan Frye, Brian Kim, and Roger Yeh.  Performances began November 25, 2018 at The Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street) for a limited engagement through Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 2:30 p.m.  Opening Night was Saturday, December 1, 2018. PAN ASIAN REPERTORY THEATRE continues its 38th Season with a re-imagining of the epic musical, James A. Michener's SAYONARA. This classic story of romance and the power of love to overcome the conflict between two clashing cultures, the US Military and a world-famous all female Takarazuka dance theatre, has a book by William Luce, lyrics by Hy Gilbert, music by George Fischoff, and is adapted from the novel by James A. Michener. Directed by Tisa Chang, with choreography by Rumi Oyama, and musical direction by Sarah Brett England; the production will begin previews on July 5, 2015 and run until July 26, 2015 at the Clurman Theatre at Theatre Row (410 W 42nd Street between 9th and Dyer). 59E59 Theaters will welcome Gold No Trade with the NYC premiere of THE SUBTLE BODY, written by Megan Campisi, with a Chinese translation by Grant Zhong, and directed by Michael Leibenluft. THE SUBTLE BODY begins performances on Thursday, February 12 for a limited engagement through Sunday, March 1. Press opening is Sunday, February 15 at 3:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:30 PM; Friday and Saturday at 8:30 PM; and Sunday at 3:30 PM. Please note, there is no performance on Wednesday, February 25.
