As a very different Valentines Day looms for people in the UK, Metcalfe Gordon Productions have created a unique digital version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, directed by Nick Evans. The online production has been stitched together in such a way that the viewer is fooled into thinking that the performers are all present in the same room.

For the past ten years Iris Theatre has been producing outdoor promenade performance of Shakespeare in the beautiful grounds of St Paul's Church in the heart of Covent Garden. In this secret haven of tranquility, set amongst the busy streets of central London, they reimagine classics in new and exciting ways. This year they are presenting Hamlet with a non-binary transgender actor, Jenet Le Lacheur, in the title role. Central to this contemporary production will be an exploration of identity, gender and meaning.

Full casting is today announced for Rupert Goold's The Merchant of Venice at the Almeida Theatre. Former Almeida Artistic Director Ian McDiarmid will play Shylock alongside Susannah Fielding and Scott Handy, who reprise their roles as Portia and Antonio. The company includes Vinta Morgan, Vincenzo Nicoli, Finlay Robertson, Raphael Sowole, Tim Steed, Jonathan Tafler, Anthony Welsh, Tom Weston-Jones and original RSC cast members Jamie Beamish, Rebecca Brewer, Caroline Martin and Emily Plumtree.
