The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) today announced the 2019 Drama League Awards Nominees for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award. The nominations were announced this morning by the current stars of Waitress, Shoshana Bean and Jeremy Jordan, at the official announcement event at Sardi's Restaurant, which was streamed live online here at BroadwayWorld.

Playwrights Horizons announces today its 2019/20 season, featuring new works from Jaclyn Backhaus (Men On Boats, India Pale Ale), Will Arbery (Plano, Evanston Salt Costs Climbing), Lucas Hnath (The Christians; A Doll's House, Part 2), Michael Friedman (Mr. Burns, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) & Daniel Goldstein (Row, Unknown Soldier), Sylvia Khoury (Against the Hillside, The Place Women Go),and Jeremy O. Atlantic Theater Company announced today that the sold-out US premiere production of The Mother has added a benefit performance on Sunday, April 7th at 6PM.

The Mother by Florian Zeller, translated by Christopher Hampton, and directed by Trip Cullman, opened just last night, March 11, at Atlantic Theater Company's Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street). The production is a limited run through April 13, 2019.

On April 1, the celebrated Off-Broadway theater company The Civilians will host Civilian Disobedience, their annual spring benefit, which honors their Civilians of the Year: Emmy nominated, award-winning documentary filmmakers Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg (Reversing Roe, Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work) as well as Marion Friedman Young for her longstanding support of The Civilians and her recent work as The Civilians partners for the Michael Friedman Legacy Fund.

Manhattan Theatre Club's Broadway premiere of Choir Boy plays its final performance today, March 10. Choir Boy is written by Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight, The Brother/Sister Plays) and directed by Drama Desk Award nominee Trip Cullman.

Just last night, Atlantic presented their Annual Gala at The Plaza (768 Fifth Avenue). Divas' Choice celebrated powerhouse women of Atlantic on and off the stage with a fabulous evening of performances honoring Vicki Reiss (Executive Director, The Shubert Foundation), Emily Tow Jackson (Executive Director & President, The Tow Foundation), and Carol Auerbach (Atlantic Board Member, Auerbach Family Foundation) for their extraordinary leadership in arts philanthropy.

Producers of the Broadway-bound Magic Mike The Musical announced today that they are accepting audition videos for a diverse cast of leading men in the show which premieres in Boston this fall - and requires a unique set of talents! The show's director Trip Cullman said, 'When Channing Tatum and his co- stars first appeared on the screen, it was unlike anything anyone had ever seen - and we are looking for actors who can surprise and dazzle us in that same unprecedented way. We are especially open to men of any race, ethnicity or creed as long as they are that elusive unicorn who can act, dance and sing brilliantly. So that should be easy!'

Currently celebrating its 40th Anniversary Season, Second Stage Theater (Carole Rothman, President and Artistic Director; Casey Reitz, Executive Director) will welcome two new Associate Artistic Directors to the staff. Beginning next month, Christie Evangelisto and Bennett Leak will join the artistic staff of the acclaimed company, working under 2ST President and Artistic Director Carole Rothman. A third Associate Artistic Director will be named in the coming weeks.

Playwrights Horizons presents playwright and performer Halley Feiffer's blistering dark comedy The Pain of My Belligerence, directed by Trip Cullman, March 29-May 12. Across eight years and three Presidential elections, this play Feiffer and Cullman's sixth collaboration holds the fraught power dynamics of a relationship up against the country's current tug-of-war of regression and profound awakening regarding gender. Feiffer's winsomely vicious writing (The New York Times) reaches new heights in this world premiere production, a Playwrights Horizons' Harold and Mimi Steinberg Commission. Cullman's direction of Feiffer's work has been praised for evoking open-wound performances steered as close to festering as audiences' stomachs allow (The New York Times). In The Pain of My Belligerence, Feiffer and Cullman wield the cutting social humor they've honed through six years of work together to shed light on how we perpetuate our roles within a patriarchal culture, looking towards the promise of a new paradigm.
