The Off-Broadway League today gave out awards in 14 categories and two additional special awards for the 2013 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. The Lortel Awards were handed out on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at NYU Skirball Center, hosted by acclaimed stage and screen actors Aasif Mandvi and Maura Tierney. This year's event once again benefited The Actors Fund.

New York Live Arts' newest program initiative, Live Ideas is an annual humanities festival that will explore a different theme each year over several days. The inaugural festival, The Worlds of Oliver Sacks, will take place from today, April 17 through 21, 2013 and is comprised of more than 20 events, including performances, films and discussions that showcase works of art and spark conversations that engage the prevalent themes in the acclaimed neurologist's works.

The Broadway League has awarded coveted New York Education Grants to the Broadway productions of Annie by Martin Charnin, Charles Strouse and Thomas Meehan, and Kinky Boots by Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper. Each production receives a $5,000 grant towards its 2013 educational initiatives. The grants aid the growth and development of theatre education in the city as they encourage Broadway productions to create more opportunities for young people and to exchange ideas about education.

Three-time Tony Award winning costume and scenic designer DESMOND HEELEY, and costume designer DAVID TOSER are among the 2013 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, May 3, at 6:30pm, at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Mr. Heeley will receive the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design and Mr. Toser was selected to receive the 2013 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design.

In October, Theatre Development Fund announced that they would pilot a new program at TKTS Times Square whereby matinee and evening tickets would be sold simultaneously at the main TKTS Discount Booth in Times Square. Due to a very robust holiday season coupled with the fact that the TKTS Discount Booth at South Street Seaport is currently closed due to flooding from Hurricane Sandy, the pilot will be suspended until after the holiday season.
