Tamyra Gray to Star in TWIST at Pasadena Playhouse, 6/14-7/17

The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Stephen Eich, Executive Director) announced today that Tamyra Gray will star as 'Della' in the Pasadena premiere of TWIST - An American Musical, based on Charles Dickens' classic Oliver Twist. This heart-warming family musical features a book by Tony Award-nominee William F. Brown (Broadway's The Wiz - winner of seven Tony Awards) and Tina Tippit, music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winner Tena Clark (Natalie Cole's Still Unforgettable), and music by Gary Prim (songwriter for Dionne Warwick and CeCe Winans). Golden Globe and multi-Emmy Award-winner Debbie Allen (Broadway and the West Ends' Cat on A Hot Tin Roof - 2010 Olivier Award for Best Revival of a Play and TV's 'Fame') is set to direct and choreograph the new musical. TWIST is presented in association with TAM Producing Partners - Skyline Pictures (Michelle Seward and Dror Soref), Edgework Productions (Willette Klausner), and GGE Live (Gary Goddard & Forbes Candlish). Performances begin June 14, 2011 and play through July 17, 2011 with the official press opening on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at The Pasadena Playhouse (39 S. El Molino).

Actor/singer/musician/author Hershey Felder's multi Award winning depiction of composer George Gershwin in George Gershwin Alone is now on stage at the Pasadena Playhouse for a limited run through May 8 celebrating a ten year anniversary. Felder fills the space with his virtuoso musicianship and creates such an extraordinary stir and love affair with his public that he is becoming almost as popular as the legendary composer himself.

STAGE TUBE: Highlights from REBUILD JAPAN!

In response to the devastating events in Japan, producers Patty Onagan and Ronn Goswick presented Rebuild Japan: A Benefit Concert at The Pasadena Playhouse, a one-night-only event on Monday, April 4 at 7:30pm. Annie Korzen, Ron Orbach & More Join THE PRISONER OF SECOND AVENUE

Actors Annie Korzen, Ron Orbach, DeeDee Rescher, and Carol Ita White will join stars Jason Alexander and Gina Hecht in the special three-week engagement of the comedy The Prisoner of Second Avenue by Neil Simon, it was announced today by producers Tom Brocato, Butterfield Road Productions in association with Charles A. Eisler, Producers Network.

Actor/singer Matt Cavenaugh Talks Gigi

Soap heartthrob and Broadway star Matt Cavenaugh has done Urban Cowboy and more recently Tony in the 2009 revival of West Side Story on Broadway. He will costar in Reprise's Gigi opening @ The Freud Playhouse at UCLA on February 16. He took time from his hectic schedule of rehearsals to speak briefly about Gigi, his other work and his new CD.

RIALTO CHATTER: Mutrux's BABY, IT'S YOU Musical Broadway-Bound in 2011?

Variety reports today that the biographical musical about composer Florence Greenberg by Million Dollar Quartet producer and book writer Floyd Mutrux is being prepped for a 2011 Broadway opening. Entitled Baby, It's You, the musical is aiming to open in the winter of 2011, co- directed by Mutrux and Sheldon Epps. Mutrux and Epps also collaborated on the Pasadena Playhouse production in November of 2009. The show premiered at the Coast Playhouse in Los Angeles prior to its Pasadena run.

VANITIES: A NEW MUSICAL Cast Recording Gets December 15 Release

The original cast recording of 'Vanities: A New Musical' will be released on December 15. The recording is produced by Joel Moss, and will feature Lauren Kennedy, Sarah Stiles, and Anneliese van der Pol. 'Vanities: A New Musical' is based on the original play 'Vanities' by Jack Heifner. Book by Jack Heifner; Music & Lyrics by David Kirshenbaum.

2009-2010 Hothouse at the Playhouse Season Announced

Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Stephen Eich, Executive Director) announced today that it has been awarded over $200,000 in grant funding for its new play development program, HOTHOUSE AT THE PLAYHOUSE.
