The 24th installment of the Tamarie Cooper Show, a highly popular series of original musicals, is back this summer as a virtual extravaganza, streaming August 13 through September 5. 

The Catastrophic Theatre is continuing to bring intimate live performances to the front lawns of Houstonians this spring!

Catastrophic Theatre has announced its 2020-21 season.

The Catastrophic Theatre is proud to produce Fefu and Her Friends, a signature work of feminist theatre by a giant of the avant-garde, Maria Irene Fornes, directed by Julia Oppenheim Traber. Over the years, The Catastrophic Theatre (and its predecessor Infernal Bridegroom Productions) have produced Fornes's The Danube and MUD, to much critical acclaim. Fefu and Her Friends runs February 14 a?" March 8 at the Midtown Arts and Theatre Center Houston (MATCH).

Claire Barron's edgy comedy/drama centers on a small, slightly dysfunctional family and their problems, the biggest of which is a massive storm system moving relentlessly their way.

It wasn't the comedy of broadcasters who have absolutely no information to share but share it anyway that stayed with me, nor was it watching each of these characters disintegrate into their lowest common denominators as they desperately cling to order. It was instead in their attempts, on the last night of the world, to stay connected. They hold on to their microphones (quite literally) and to each other and their unseen audiences to their last coherent moment, 'speaking to keep loneliness at bay'.

Tamarie Cooper Directs The Catastrophic Theatre's Season Opener, TRAGEDY, A TRAGEDY 

The Catastrophic Theatre is proud to announce the final production of its 2018-2019 season, a revival of the 2006 hit show Speeding Motorcycle, based on the songs and art of the legendary Daniel Johnston. The revival will be co-directed by Catastrophic founding artistic directors, Jason Nodler and Tamarie Cooper, and reunites much of the original creative team, including arrangements by musical director Anthony Barilla and choreography by Cooper. The play opens June 28 and runs through August 4.

New Georges presents the co-world premiere of Leap and the Net Will Appear, by Chana Porter, and directed byTara Ahmadinejad. Leap and the Net Will Appear will play June 16-30, 2019 in The Sam at The Flea Theater (20 Thomas Street New York, NY 10007), with opening night set for June 18, 2019. New Georges is an Anchor Partner at The Flea.

The world premiere of Brian Jucha's TOAST at the Catastrophic Theatre is a theatrical experience unlike any other. This deeply layered, highly surrealist adventure draws audiences through realms of reality, and varied states of consciousness, with a mashup of vignettes featuring current events, scenes from the movie Alien, stories about love, and a parade of flamingos. It reveals and revels in themes of loss, betrayal, love, and the meaning of life. TOAST is hilarious, absurd, mesmerizing, and not-to-be-missed.

In an unprecedented partnership, The Catastrophic Theatre and the University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance will co-present a visiting production of WAKEY, WAKEY, created by Hyde Park Theatre (HPT) in Austin, TX. HPT Artistic Director Ken Webster directs the show and stars as Guy alongside co-star Rebecca Robinson. Playwright Will Eno will be in residence in Houston during the first weekend of performances. WAKEY, WAKEY is presented in a very limited run at the Jos Quintero Theatre at the University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance. The play opens January 24th and runs through February 3rd. This iteration of the Tamarie Cooper Show explores the leading lady's emotional baggage, battle against minor depression, and all of the discarded bad ideas that the troop has come up with when they were in line at 4am at Taco Bell. Following directly on the heels of The Catastrophic Theatre's smash hit musical SMALL BALL, with book and lyrics by Mickle Maher, the theatre is commemorating its long and prolific relationship with Maher by remounting its lauded 2008 production of his play THE STRANGERER to play in repertory with its spiritual sequel, in an extremely limited run. THE STRANGERER is a darkly hilarious satire of the first debate in the 2004 presidential election between George W. Bush and Jim Kerry, moderated by Jim Lehrer. It will be presented in repertory with JIM LEHRER AND THE THEATRE AND ITS DOUBLE AND JIM LEHRER'S DOUBLE, a sequel to THE STRANGERER about Jim Lehrer, the now retired news anchor and presidential debate moderator, who is visited one evening by his double: Jim Lehrer, the amateur playwright.

SMALL BALL is a farcical, fantastical and downright fabulous basketball musical that tells a very human story about loss, love, and finding a home.

The Catastrophic Theatre continues its 2017-2018 season with the rolling world premiere of Leap and the Net Will Appear by Chana Porter, who two-time Obie Award-winning playwright and director Craig Lucas has called 'the most original and funny and touching and interesting young playwright out there at this moment.' The production will be directed by Porter's collaborator, NYC director Tara Ahmadinejad, and features original music by composer Andrew Lynch.
