The Catastrophic Theatre will present the world premiere of Beautiful Princess Disorder, a new play written and directed by Kathy Ng, running November 21–December 13, 2025, at the Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston (MATCH).
When you think of summer, you think of food, but rarely do you immediately think of thespians and theater. But why is that? Theaters are cool and dark, and they often seem like great places to escape the heat.
Truly, these shows are ingenious musical sketch-comedy pieces that remind me a ton of both Carol Brunette and variety shows of the 70s as much as something like a South Park, The Simpsons, or Family Guy. They are a chance to watch “serious actors” let go and do really silly fun stuff that they almost never get to do in any other play, unleashed by any other company.
This show is a Houston summer tradition, and it is the Catastrophic Theatre's version of A Christmas Carol at the Alley or The Nutcracker at the Houston Ballet. Except every year, this one's a new script and a new ball of crazy to enjoy.

It is a show presented by Shunya Theatre that will be at the MATCH complex from April 10th through the 13th. The play's premise is that a meet-cute at a temple results in a romance between Naveen Gavaskar and Keshav — a Hindi-speaking, Bollywood-loving man who happens to be white. As the love story unfolds, the Gavaskar household must also brace itself for the return of Naveen's older sister, Arundhathi.
The Frozen Section is set in a grocery store at the edge of the world. It is about a community of people living in a world with far fewer people and a much harder, harder way of living.
It is all about just telling stories through this little world that we create together, and many of us just bring in many of our personal experiences as actors or even just through our lives. And the show really invited that openness, for sure, because LOVE BOMB or just love in general is a topic that can go so many different ways.
LOVE BOMB is a masterpiece of the absurd, but at the same time, it’s a viable Melanie jukebox musical that could command any stage in town. Yet I doubt that any company other than the Catastrophic Theatre will ever dare to do so because it asks much of its audience.

This company is just really strong at putting on funny-as-hell musical sketch comedies. It’s as if SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE were written by Kander and Ebb.

What drew me to the show was what drew me to the work that Catastrophic Theatre does in general. They do work that nobody else does. Work that's largely unexplored in our region, or in our country, or whatever. I'm drawn to that kind of stuff, and Sarah Kane has a unique view of love and human relationships. And I share some of those ideas.
