BWW Review: UNTIL THE FLOOD at Studio Theatre

DC’s Studio Theatre is known as a leading contemporary theater, and the subject matter of its current production can scarcely be more so. Inspired by the police killing of young Michael Brown in 2014 in Ferguson, Mo., and based on dozens of interviews conducted in its aftermath across the city’s communities by playwright Dael Orlandersmith, Under the Flood goes beyond any specific such shooting to explore African American-White relations on a much-broader and emotionally charged scale. The anger and mistrust, the occasional ties of friendship. Personal success and failure amidst social upheaval.

BWW Feature: VINTAGE POP! Comes to Florida Studio Theatre

ATC and LAMDA Appoint Associate Director, Ameera Conrad

Young People's Theatre Announces 'Room for Imagination' $10.5 Million Expansion Project

Celebrating its 55th anniversary, Young People’s Theatre has announced the launch of the Room for Imagination expansion project. With the purchase of a fully accessible, multi-use building at 161 Frederick Street, only steps away from its historic Front Street East theatre, YPT will expand its footprint with 12,000 additional square feet.

MINE EYES HAVE SEEN and WAR BRIDES to be Presented by Ghostlight Ensemble

Ghostlight Ensemble will continue its series on historically overlooked female playwrights with two one act plays - Mine Eyes Have Seen by Alice Dunbar Nelson and War Brides by Marion Craig Wentworth - that deal with wars and the battles families are forced to fight amongst themselves when someone is called to 'serve.'

FST Extends Two All-New Musical Revues VINTAGE POP! and THREE PIANOS

Due to audience demand, Florida Studio Theatre (FST) announces that Vintage POP! and Three Pianos, two musical revues are being extended yet again. Vintage POP!, a special new concert exploring the transformation of popular music from the 1920s to the 1980s, will now run in FST's Keating Theatre through Sunday, May 16, 2021.

Erika Dickerson-Despenza Awarded 2021 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for CULLUD WATTAH

The 2021 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has been awarded to U.S. playwright Erika Dickerson-Despenza for her play about the Flint, Michigan water crisis, cullud wattah. Awarded annually since 1977, The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize is the largest and oldest international prize honoring Women+ playwrights.

Playwright Jake Brasch Awarded 2021-22 College Collaboration Project Commission With The Farm Theater

Now in its ninth season of supporting emerging writers The Farm Theater has awarded their 2021/22 College Collaboration Project Commission to playwright Jake Brasch (Greenland at Dixon Place; Salutations, I'm Creative Dave at Alchemical Theatre Laboratory). Jake will collaborate with Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN and Pellissippi State College in Knoxville, TN. Austin Peay is participating in The Farm Theater's College Collaboration Project for the first time. This will be Pellissippi State's second year, following their partnership in 2018-19.
