5-STAR THEATRICALS has announced the first show of its 2023-2024 season, the Tony Award winning, RAGTIME: THE MUSICAL, book by Terrence McNally, music by Lynn Ahrens, lyrics by Steven Flaherty, conductor and musical direction by Tom Griffin, choreography by Michelle Elkin and directed by Jeffrey Polk.

November has been a very busy month for musical theater in Paris. On top of the big shows opening at Mogador, Théâtre du Gymnase, and Théâtre de Paris, the Auguste Théâtre has been hosting a very intimate musical entitled Simply Musicals: Manila, London, Paris. Produced by Pinoy Jam Paris in patnership with the association Paris Broadway Saigon in 2012, it is a cabaret show with a storyline showcasing the talented baritone Dennis Astorga and the delightful soprano Charley Magalit, accompanied by the magic fingers of musical director Thomas MacFarlane at the piano.

On New Year's Eve, PBS will air the musical special 'United in Song: Celebrating the Resilience of America.' BroadwayWorld had the pleasure of speaking with Broadway's own Brian Stokes Mitchell, who performs 'Make Them Hear You' and 'Wheels of a Dream' from 'Ragtime' as part of the special. He told us about recording in a pandemic, recovering from COVID-19, and his work as chairman of The Actors Fund.

Theatreworks USA, the nation's premiere producer of theatre for family audiences, held an invitation-only work-in-progress presentation earlier today of their new musical, PETE THE CAT, based on the best-selling book series by Kimberly and James Dean.

Few directors and choreographers can get the sort of performance Kathleen Marshall drew out of Sutton Foster in the 2011 revival of ANYTHING GOES; few can get them to keep going, to push through an eight-minute act closer, with hefty tapping and belting. Fewer still can stitch it all up into one of the most rousing, palpitation-inducing musical moments in decades.
