Palm Springs International Film Festival Announces Festival Line-Up

The 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) announced that the festival's opening night will be the screening of All is True directed by Kenneth Branagh on Friday, January 4. The festival will close with Ladies in Black, directed by Bruce Beresford on Sunday, January 13. The Festival will screen 223 films from 78 countries, including 48 premieres (4 World, 13 North American and 31 U.S.) from January 3-14, 2019. The line-up includes a focus on cinema from France, India and Mexico, Premieres, Talking Pictures, Book to Screen, Special Presentations, FLOS: Foreign Language Oscar Submissions, Gay!La, Local Spotlight, Modern Masters, True Stories, World Cinema Now, a 30-film retrospective of selections from past festivals (free screenings sponsored by Desert Care Network and National Endowment for the Arts), and more.

This morning, The Hollywood Reporter, along with presenting sponsor Lifetime, hosted their 27th annual Women in Entertainment breakfast at MILK Studios in Los Angeles. Speeches were given by Viola Davis, Kesha, Monica Lewinsky, Awkwafina, Lena Dunham, Lupita Nyong'o, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Nina Jacobson and Hannah Gadsby at the event where college scholarships were awarded.

Production has officially wrapped in Alabama on the coming-of-age teen comedy “This is the Year” starring breakout actor Lorenzo Henrie (“Fear the Walking Dead”) and Gregg Sulkin (Marvel's “Runaways,” “Faking It”). David Henrie (“Wizards of Waverly Place,” “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2”) is directing the film and wrote the screenplay with Bug Hall, Pepe Portillo and Sienna Aquilinni.

The McCallum Theatre presents Bob Newhart on Saturday, November 17, at 8:00 pm. One of the most important, influential, and beloved figures in the history of American comedy, Chicago native Bob Newhart has been entertaining audiences around the world for over 50 years. Bob has enjoyed success in television and films as well and hosted the "Tonight Show" an astonishing 87 times. His early TV effort, the "Bob Newhart Variety Show," earned an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award and was followed by the television success of "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-1978) and "Newhart" (1982-1990). He has appeared in over 14 feature films, including Elf, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Catch 22 and Legally Blonde 2, and has starred with the likes of Steve McQueen, Bobby Darin, Barbara Streisand, Madeline Kahn and Walter Matthau. He's also provided character voices for major animated films.
