San Francisco Opera Center And Merola Opera Program Present Second Schwabacher Recital

The 37th Schwabacher Recital Series continues on Wednesday, March 4, with its second performance of 2020. San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows Simone McIntosh and Zhengyi Bai take the stage at San Francisco's Dianne and Tad Taube Atrium Theater for a musical exploration of love and heartbreak, accompanied by Robert Mollicone on the piano. Their program will spotlight Olivier Messiaen's rarely performed Harawi, Richard Strauss' beloved Opus 27 songs and selections from Vincenzo Bellini's Sei Ariette da Camera.

Marcus Institute For Vocal Arts Announces 2019-20 Season

Juilliard's Ellen and James S. Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts, under the leadership of artistic director Brian Zeger, announces its 2019-20 season of opera and vocal arts performances. Highlights of the upcoming season include three mainstage operas: Mozart's Così fan tutte, conducted by alumnus Nimrod David Pfeffer and directed by faculty member David Paul, on November 13, 15, and 17, 2019, in Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater; Virgil Thomson's The Mother of Us All, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art's MetLiveArts and the New York Philharmonic with Juilliard singers, conducted by Daniela Candillari and directed by Louisa Proske, on February 8, 11, 12, and 14, 2020, in the Charles Engelhard Court at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and Puccini's La bohème, conducted by Keri-Lynn Wilson and directed by Stephen Wadsworth, on April 22, 24, and 26, 2020, in Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater.

BWW Review: SIMON SINGS PORGY AND BESS at Des Moines Symphony: A Jubilant Evening of Beautiful Music

It is always a jubilant evening when I get to see the Des Moines Symphony, and their most recent concert was no different. I had the pleasure of attending the Saturday evening performance of 'Simon Sings Porgy and Bess' and was treated to an evening of stunning music. One thing I appreciate about the Des Moines Symphony is the balance of repertoire with both familiar and new music, and this performance was no exception.

Lake Street Dive Perform GOOD KISSER on LATE SHOW

Stephen Colbert has been a long-time supporter and fan of Lake Street Dive, and last night on Monday, May 7, the band performed the single 'Good Kisser' from their new album Free Yourself Up,which was released on Nonesuch Records Friday, May 4. Rolling Stone posted the performance earlier today, with Jeff Gage stating that 'fleshed out by the keys work of the Boston ensemble's newest full-time member Akie Bermiss, the band's tongue-in-cheek breakup tune features a smoldering groove that eventually catches full flame.'

Lake Street Dive releases its new album Free Yourself Up on Nonesuch Records today, Friday, May 4, featuring the singles 'Good Kisser' and 'I Can Change'. The band also announces more North American stops on their international tour, which begins with an intimate show at The Sinclair in Lake Street Dive's original home of Boston on the album's release day and continues with more than fifty additional performances. American soprano Kathleen Battle's luminous voice has been called '…without qualification, one of the very few most beautiful in the world' (The Washington Post ). Yet beyond the glory of her singing, in a career filled with countless accolades, honors and major milestones, what has perhaps distinguished her most is her almost magical ability to create an unwavering bond with her audience. Returning to Seattle for the first time in two decades, the legendary opera star takes the stage at the University of Washington's Meany Hall on April 14, 2018, to explore traditional spirituals and the writings of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass. She is joined by acclaimed jazz pianist Joel Martin and local choirs The Sound of the Northwest and UW Chamber Singers.

Lake Street Dive will release Free Yourself Up, its second album with Nonesuch Records on May 4. The four-member band -- drummer Michael Calabrese, bassist Bridget Kearney, singer Rachael Price, and guitarist/trumpeter Michael 'McDuck' Olson -- self-produced the album at Goosehead Palace Studios in Nashville with engineer Dan Knobler. Tenor William Burden To Join the Juilliard Voice Faculty

Juilliard announces the appointment of tenorWilliam Burden to Juilliard's voice faculty in Juilliard's Ellen and James S. Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts. Mr. Burden's appointment will begin in fall of 2018.
