The WeCCMA Choral Music Eisteddfod 2017 To Celebrate OR Tambo
This year's WeCCMA Choral Music Esteddfod will see an influx of musicians from across the Western Cape Province converging at Artscape theatre Centre to celebrate one of Africa's freedom stalwart's, OR Tambo on Sunday, 15 October 2017 at 10:00.
This is one of WeCCMA's (Western Cape Choral Music Association) most prestigious events and will be presented for the 24th time in partnership with Artscape Theatre and The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
All African composed music that will be sung on the day will be the music composed specifically to celebrate this freedom stalwart and will feature three different categories; developing, senior and premier choirs.
Newly established choirs competing in the Developing Section this year include Homechoice choir, Eskom choir and other newly formed choirs based in communities around the Western Cape. The Senior Section will include amongst the others, Philippi Sweet Melodies, UCT Choir for Africa, the Transnet Engineering Choir, Cape Waves Chorale, Cape Serenades and the Western Cape SAPS Choir. Premier Section is for established choirs with more than 50 members and will see the likes of UWC Creative Arts Choir, Western Classical Voices, Western Chorale, Heavenly Voices, the UWC Creative Arts Choir, Simon Estes Alumni, United Chorale Artist and Western Chorale.
All choirs in all three categories will perform a variety of choral songs from both African origin as well as the Western Classical period Compositions. This year's variety will include a choice to sing any opera chorus not longer than 7 minutes.
