The Australian mezzo soprano Miriam Sharrad (Opera Studio) and the pianist Adrian Sims met through their love of musical theatre. Three years on, they are thrilled to present Salon to Stage to audiences in London, Edinburgh, Cyprus and in 2020, Sydney and Adelaide. Salon to Stage originates in the salons of Duparc and Rachmaninov, then journeys through Gershwin on Broadway, to Mozart and Puccini opera. Punctuated by a piano solo, the evening of Sunday, 20th of October, 6pm, at Technopolis 20, should provide something for everyone! (more...)

Conductor Martyn Brabbins celebrated his 60th birthday in fine fashion: with a new commission for 14 composers to create their own set of orchestral variations on an anonymous theme, mirroring the shape of Elgar's Enigma Variations. Programme notes from the composers illustrated a genuine fondness for the celebrated conductor, and their perceptions of him - energy, warmth, generosity, humour and virtuosity - shone through in an impressively unified work. Open Call, The Shed's commissioning and programming initiative for New York-based emerging artists, launches on Thursday, May 30, with new works by seven artists and collectives presented in The Griffin Theater over six weeks. The inaugural program continues June 19 through August 25 with a group show of 22 artists and collectives in Level 2 Gallery and presentations of new work by 15 artists and collectives in The Shed's open-air Plaza; a fourth group will be presented in 2020. On Friday, April 5 at 8:00 p.m. the orchestra plays the suite from The Miraculous Mandarin; Concerto for Orchestra; and selections from Twenty-Seven Two- and Three-Part Choruses featuring Hungary's Cantemus Choir, under the direction of Choir Master Denes Szabo. "We adore performing in the wonderful spaces of the 1900 Building," said Ioudenitch. "Between their 300-seat Parkway Room and their more intimate Rose Hall (75-150), they can accommodate our different needs as both of their halls can be "tuned" according to our performance requirements. Bloomingdale School of Music is pleased to continue its Faculty Focus Performance Series with a solo concert by piano faculty member Nuno da Silva Marques in a program devoted to the works of the great pianist/composers Frederic Chopin, Enrique Granados and Sergei Rachmaninov. Their music for piano as well as their own virtuosity at the instrument influenced generations of composers and pianists. The concert will be held in the David Greer Recital Hall located at the school's home site at 323 West 95th Street, between Broadway and Riverside Drive in Manhattan. Seating is limited. (more...)
