On September 23rd, the Oscar-Qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival will once again host a star-studded Opening Night celebration. Attendees of the in-person ceremony will witness short film premieres from Academy Award-winning alumni and Hollywood heavyweights. The performance begins at 7:30pm in the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall. The ensemble has a full big band sound thanks to its instrumentation: four trumpets, four trombones, five saxes, acoustic bass, piano, drums, vocalist, and leader Reeves whose instruments are trombone and alto flugelhorn. The featured vocalist, Carolyn Leonhart, was formerly a lead back-up vocalist with Steely Dan. For jazz enthusiasts, this is the real deal - an 18 piece big band of seasoned musicians who love what they do.

Master classes are great learning experiences. At SUNY Orange these programs are offered in several disciplines: visual art, music, poetry, theatre, communication, dance, and biology/botany. From 11am to 1pm on Friday, April 20, 2018, The Chris Parker Band will present a music master class - The Elements of Jazz… Putting It All Together. This is an opportunity to meet five jazz musicians who live music and have figured out ways of making a living at it.
