Today's big news: DO I HEAR A WALTZ? begins at Encores!, NC Stage's BRAVE NEW WORLD musical with Justin Matthew Sargent starts tonight, and HAMILTON gets honored with the 2016 Brendan Gill Prize!

The Encores! production of DO I HEAR A WALTZ?, the romantic, rarely-seen 1965 musical that marked the only collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim, opens tonight.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center celebrated the 16th annual MonteCristo Award ceremony with a presentation of the honor to award-winning stage and film director, playwright, and actor George C. Wolfe on Monday night at the Edison Ballroom. The O'Neill annually bestows its Monte Cristo Award on a prominent theater artist whose lifetime work has had an extraordinary impact on American theater. The gala event supports the Center's commitment to developing new work and new artists for the stage. 

Next up in the Encores! season is Do I Hear a Waltz?, the romantic, rarely-seen 1965 musical that marked the only collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim. Do I Hear a Waltz? will star Claybourne Elder, Melissa Errico, Sarah Hunt, Zachary Infante, Cass Morgan, Richard Poe, Michael Rosen, Sarah Stiles, and Richard Troxell. The ensemble includes Kristine Bendul, Paloma Garcia-Lee, Jenny Laroche, Jennifer Locke, Nathan Madden, Skye Mattox, Devin Roberts, Manny Stark, and Alex Wong.

THE FATHER, a new play by Moliere Award winner Florian Zeller, in a translation by two-time Tony Award winner Christopher Hampton (Sunset Boulevard, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, God of Carnage), opened just last night, April 14, 2016 on Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. More than 400 guests joined Olympians and stars of stage and screen to show their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students at the annual Point Honors gala the landmark New York Public Library last night. The evening celebrated the accomplishments of Point Foundation's (Point), higher education scholarship recipients. More than $500,000 was raised for Point, the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit.

Just last night, MCC Theater's Miscast gala, an annual highlight of the New York theater season, honored Oscar winning star of stage & screen and MCC alum Marisa Tomei. The gala featured show-stopping performances by Emmy Award nominee Tituss Burgess; Tony Award winners Lea Salonga and Linda Lavin; Tony Award nominee Keala Settle; and stage and screen stars Aaron Tveit, Beth Behrs, Cynthia Erivo, Ana Villafañe, and Shanice Williams. Encores! Artistic Director Jack Viertel today announced casting for the Encores! production of Do I Hear a Waltz?, the romantic, rarely-seen 1965 musical that marked the only collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim. Do I Hear a Waltz? will star Claybourne Elder, Melissa Errico, Sarah Hunt, Zachary Infante, Cass Morgan, Richard Poe, Michael Rosen, Sarah Stiles, and Richard Troxell. Following her Tony-nominated performance in Broadway's HAND TO GOD, Sarah Stiles is about to get 'squirrely' at Joe's Pub.

Renowned guitarist Gary Lucas (of Captain Beefheart fame) and Broadway star Sarah Stiles (Tony nominee for Hand to God) present a delightful and loving tribute to the swinging soundtracks of New York animation genius Max Fleischer and his surreal Betty Boop and Popeye cartoons of the 1930s. The live vocal-and-guitar performance, on Sunday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Museum of the Moving Image, will also feature screenings of six great Fleischer cartoons, almost all in 35mm prints from the UCLA Film & TV Archive: Ain't She Sweet, Koko's Earth Control, Swing You Sinners!, Snow White, Betty Boop for President, and Popeye the Sailor. The program will include a 45-minute set of live music, interspersed with screenings of six cartoons. (The total running time of the program is 85 minutes.)

The show opens for previews at the Vaudeville Theatre on Friday 5th February, the Press Night is Monday 15th February.

In celebration of her Tony Award-nominated performance in Broadway's hit comedy, HAND TO GOD, Sarah Stiles springs back onto the stage to debut her first solo cabaret extravaganza, "Squirrel Heart."
