Erin Markey & EMILY BATE: HEY GIRL, THAT'S MY GIRL

Thursday, October 20 at 9:30PM
$20

Erin Markey and Emily Bate continue to explore their onstage vocal chemistry and offstage 24-hour-a-day buddy comedy performance project in a night of duets. The pair is inspired by listening to Barbra Streisand's Duets on long drives to their shared home state of Michigan and training aspirationally to become the red-blooded sopranos they never accepted they always wanted to be. Bate and Markey imprint the weird romance of their 15-year long friendship onto the hetero-camp tradition of the duet. Some of the angels guiding their way include Kid Rock, humiliating sex, Linda Ronstadt, their obsessions with their parents, Whitney Houston and their own songwriting selves. Pianist Ian Axness and drummer Mike Marcinowski will join them onstage.

Laura Cantrell W/ OPENER KAYLYN MARIE

Sunday, October 23 at 7:00PM
$20

Laura Cantrell is a country music artist from Nashville, based in New York City. When she first came to New York, she found that her abiding interest in country music kept her connected with her family roots. That motivated her long-running radio program on WFMU, The Radio Thrift Shop, which became Saturday staple in the New York for 13 years. In her 10-year recording career, Cantrell has released three acclaimed albums: Not The Tremblin' Kind, When The Roses Bloom Again and Humming By The Flowered Vine. She has toured extensively through Europe, where she was a beloved favorite of pioneering BBC DJ John Peel. Cantrell's music has been celebrated in The New York Times, O Magazine, Elle and The Wall Street Journal. Cantrell's music has been featured on NPR's "All Things Considered," "On Point," and "Weekend Edition," plus she has performed on Mountain Stage, The Grand Ole Opry and on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien."

Lyrical-folk-rock singer/songwriter Kaylyn Marie returns to Joe's Pub after releasing her Debut EP Where I Need last year. Dan Hoyle: THE REAL AMERICANS
Monday, October 24 at 7:00PM

Living out of his van, he found himself sharing meals and conversations with union coal miners, rural drug dealers, anti-war Veterans, and closeted gay creation theory experts, among others. Hoyle sought to see the world through their eyes, and found himself at ground zero of our country's growing economic inequality and polarized politics. Two Obama terms and 350 performances in a dozen cities later, the show is back. Why? Because Donald Trump has made it all wildly relevant again. Come sit with the characters that made The Real Americans a runaway hit. This evening will feature additional material based on Hoyle's travels throughout the summer of 2016 to reconnect with some of the people that inspired the original show.

Suzanne Vega

Tuesday and Wednesday, October 25 & 26 at 7:30PM & 9:30PM

$40

Widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she sang what has been labeled contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world's best-known halls. In performances devoid of outward drama that nevertheless convey deep emotion, Vega sings in a distinctive, clear vibrato-less voice that has been described as "a cool, dry sandpaper- brushed near-whisper" and as "plaintive but disarmingly powerful." In short, Suzanne Vega's work is immediately recognizable, as utterly distinct and thoughtful, and as creative and musical now, as it was when her voice was first heard on the radio over 20 years ago.
