In the premiere of DCPA's 2025-2026 season, The Happiest Man on Earth chronologs the times and trials of Eddie Jaku, a Jewish man who recounts his hardships evading capture and death at the hands of Nazi Germany.

Denver Center Theatre Company has announced the 2025/26 season for the regional producing theatre arm of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA).

Mark St Germain adapts Jaku’s life story into a 90-minute one-man show that overflows with empathy and hope. Directed by Ron Lagomarsino, the piece transcends the limits of theatre.

It's not an unfamiliar tale, following Holocaust victim Eddie Jaku from comfortable circumstances through horror and gradually out again. Because there has been a sizeable body of Holocaust literature, drama and cinema, little of this is exactly new to us. But Jaku’s personality, his wry way of describing these grim situations, makes us eager to hear them recounted. And Kenneth Tigar's portrayal of Jaku is key; Tigar seems to disappear into his character. We are not conscious of acting, just of Eddie. You should meet him.
