On June 18, 2021, I watched Los Angeles Opera’s film of Stravinsky’s 1927 opera-oratorio Oedipus Rex. Jean Cocteau, who wrote the libretto, based it on the ancient Greek tragedy Sophocles wrote ca. 429 BCE. Right now LAO is featuring it online for free.

On Saturday, we see Los Angeles Opera’s online stream of Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex. Stravinsky based Oedipus on Sophocles’ Greek tragedy and his 1927 opera is a highly stylized, ritualistic work. A narrator describes the action throughout the course of the opera. Although the opera is in Latin, narration is spoken in the language of the audience.

Teatro San Diego has announced casting for their inaugural production of Songs For A New World. Music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, original orchestration by Brian Besterman & Jason Robert Brown.

Celebrity Attractions has announced an extraordinary lineup of five national Broadway tours coming in the Celebrity Attractions’ 2021-2022 Broadway Season to Robinson Performance Hall.  Kicking off the season is the London West End sell-out show, THE SIMON & GARFUNKEL STORY and is followed by the romantic new musical, ANASTASIA, in November. 

Beginning today at 5pm PT, LA Opera presents a new streaming presentation of Igor Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex, conducted by James Conlon, the company's Richard Seaver Music Director, and starring tenor Russell Thomas, the company's Artist in Residence, in the title role.

The 2022 inductees for Hollywood's iconic Walk of Fame have been announced and among this year's star recipients are two-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone and late pop culture icon and Broadway playwright, Carrie Fisher.

The Tap Affect is a celebration of the unique art form of tap. With each of the eight performers having their own tap style and story, they will each delve into their emotional bond to the art form as well as pay tribute to the masters of tap including Eddie Brown, Buster Brown, Bill Robinson, John Bubbles, Eleanor Powell and Jeni Legon.

1812 Productions will present a one-of-a-kind digital theatre experience, Set Model Theatre. Conceived at the height of national quarantine, Set Model Theatre is a documentary series that pulls back the curtain on the creative processes of 15 Philadelphia theatre designers as they work in distanced collaboration on a fantasy production of Shakespeare's King Lear.

​​​​​​​Lifeline Theatre welcomes Amelia Ablan to her new staff position as Production Manager, beginning June 2021. Reporting directly to Artistic Director Ilesa Duncan and Managing Director Allison Cain, Ablan will be responsible for overseeing the production processes for the company, collaborating closely with directors and the Artistic Director to fulfill the production needs for Lifeline's future live and digital programming.  Ablan succeeds Jennifer McClendon, who served as Production Manager since 2016, now heading to Providence, Rhode Island to Trinity Repertory Company as their new Producing Director.

NYSAF returns July 17-August 1 with in-person programming in Poughkeepsie for their 2021 Summer Season.  In partnership with Vassar College, Marist College, and Revel 32 °, NYSAF will serve the needs of theater and film artists today, bringing them safely together in community to generate new stories and reconnect with one another and audiences.

Bristol Riverside Theatre has moved its William Penn Bank Summer Music Fest outside for the summer season and continues with the theatre's traditional concert series which will bring the sounds of Broadway and the 80s to Bristol Township's brand-new outdoor amphitheatre. This BRT summer tradition continues under the leadership of former BRT Artistic Director Keith Baker and features several of BRT's favorite voices.
