The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has announced 10 Finalists for its prestigious playwriting Award, the oldest and largest prize awarded to women playwrights.

The sensational feel-good musical MAMMA MIA! will have its star-studded gala premiere at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts tonight, 17 January 2019. The Gala Night audience will include invited VIPs, show sponsors and a host of local celebrities such as Stephen Chan, Cissy Wang, Ankie Beilke, Cecil Chao, Bianca Wu, Snowy Choi, Icy Wong, Janet Ma and Sabrina Leung.

Steve Tompkins, director of Haworth Tompkins, the architecture studio responsible for projects including many of UK theatre's most high-profile building projects, including the National Theatre, Bridge Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre, Liverpool Everyman and Bristol Old Vic, has been named number one in The Stage 100 in association with Spektrix, the definitive list of the 100 most influential figures working in theatre and the performing arts industry in the UK today.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for the world premiere of Kenneth Lin's timely cautionary tale of capitalism run amok, Kleptocracy. Inspired by the power struggle between the richest of the Oligarchs and an ambitious Vladimir Putin after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Lin (House of Cards) explores U.S. - Russia relations then and now. Directed by Jackson Gay, and by special arrangement with Robert Ahrens, Mickey Liddell and Michael Mills, Kleptocracy runs January 18 - February 24, 2019 in the Kreeger Theater.

Jukebox musicals have been quite a trend lately. Owing its origin to Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story, which successfully ran on West End from 1989 to 2003, the genre's popularity has been boosted by many others that followed suit, such as Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, featuring the music and life of Carole King. Just recently, Manila had seen the staging of a tribute to one of the country's more enduring musical groups, The Apo Hiking Society, with the successful Eto na! Musikal nAPO! This mid-October, yet another jukebox musical, built around the iconic songs of major karaoke staples provider, Air Supply, beckons.

North Carolina Theatre, the region's premiere nonprofit professional theatre, is proud to announce the hiring of a familiar face as the theatre's new Artistic Director. Broadway casting director and Benson, NC native, Eric Woodall, will join the NC Theatre team in November.
