The Huntington Theatre Company Board of Trustees names David R. Epstein to the role of Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sharon Malt to President, Carol B. Langer to Treasurer, and Sherryl Cohen to Clerk. Mr. Epstein and Ms. Malt assumed their new leadership roles at Monday's Huntington Board of Trustees meeting. Mr. Epstein succeeds Carol G. Deane (active in real estate management), Huntington Trustee Chairman since 2010; Ms. Malt succeeds Mitchell Roberts (owner of PR Restaurants LLC, a Panera Bread franchise), President since 2010. Both Ms. Deane and Mr. Roberts will continue to serve on the Huntington's Board of Trustees and Executive Committee.

SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE opens the Huntington Theatre Company's 2016-2017 season. Directed by Artistic Director Peter DuBois, with Music Direction by Eric Stern, it features a large and talented ensemble with a mix of Boston theater artists and those with Broadway credits. Jenni Barber is a delight as Dot/Marie, but Adam Chanler-Berat does not match her intensity as George. The production looks great, sounds good, but feels less filling than a Sondheim show should.

The cast of the Huntington Theatre Company's production of Sunday in the Park with George will perform the National Anthem on Friday, September 16, 2016, at ALS Awareness Night at Fenway Park before the televised Red Sox versus Yankees game at 7:10pm.

Bank of America becomes the Season Sponsor of the Huntington Community Membership Initiative and a grant from Theatre Communications Group allows the Huntington to expand its Community Membership Initiative to the Lyric Stage Company of Boston and SpeakEasy Stage Company. Theatre Communications Group's (TCG) Audience (R)Evolution Cohort Grants, supported by Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF), empower teams of three or more not-­for-­profit organizations to design and implement audience­ engagement and community­ development strategies together.

The Huntington is now accepting applications for the 2017-2019 Huntington Playwriting Fellows Cohort. To be eligible, writers must live at least nine months of the year in the Greater Boston area. Applications can be submitted online and all accompanying materials must be submitted via email to submissions@huntingtontheatre.org no later than 11:59PM on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Early submissions are encouraged, and submissions are read roughly in the order they are received. 

Vineyard Theatre, one of the nation's leading nonprofit theatre companies has announced today that Executive Producer/CEO Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell, who has been a key member of the company's leadership team for almost 20 years, has decided to depart at the end of September 2016 to pursue new career opportunities.

Stage & Screen, a collaboration between Coolidge Corner Theatre and Huntington Theatre Company that explores the depictions of shared themes in Huntington productions and acclaimed films, announces four upcoming film screenings and post-screening conversations with Huntington artists and experts. Tickets to each screening are $12 ($9 for Coolidge members with member ID and Huntington Theatre Company subscribers with promo code) and may be purchased online at coolidge.org or at the Coolidge box office, located at 290 Harvard Street, Brookline.

The Huntington Theatre Company will present the new comedy Tiger Style! by Mike Lew and directed by Tony Award nominee, Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God on Broadway). Performances begin Friday, October 14 and continue through November 13, 2016 at the South End / Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA. 

Single tickets to the Huntington Theatre Company's 2016-2017 season will go on sale to the general public at midnight on Tuesday, August 2.

Tony Award winner Billy Porter will return to the Huntington to direct next seasons Topdog/Underdog by Suzan-Lori Parks. Mr. Porter directed the Huntington's 2015 production of George C. Wolfe's The Colored Museum and is currently performing on Broadway in Wolfe's production of Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed. Topdog/Underdog will perform March 10 - April 9, 2017 at the BU Theatre/Avenue of the Arts.

The Huntington Theatre Company's annual Summer Workshop will start rehearsals on July 12 and conclude in public readings of three new plays on July 23 and 24, 2016. The workshop allows selected members of the Huntington Playwriting Fellows program two weeks to focus on developing new plays. The workshop and public readings will take place in the South End at the Huntington's Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts, 527 Tremont Street, Boston.

The Huntington Theatre Company will open its 2016-2017 season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park with George, Stephen Sondheim's stunning masterpiece about love, inspiration, and "the art of making art." Huntington Artistic Director Peter DuBois (A Little Night Music) will direct. Performances will run September 9 - October 16, 2016 at the Avenue of the Arts / BU Theatre. Tickets are now on sale to the general public.

 Mayor Martin J. Walsh joined Huntington Managing Director Michael Maso and developer John Matteson of QMG Huntington, LLC to announce a partnership that will allow the Huntington Theatre Company to stay in its current home, the Boston University Theatre.

The Huntington Theatre Company presents a free reading and discussion with author and producer Jack Viertel at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA on Monday, June 20 at 7:30pm, moderated by Huntington Artistic Director Peter DuBois. A New York Times bestseller, The Secret Life of the American Musical is an insider's look at the anatomy of a Broadway musical. Viertel writes about what he learned over the course of his career, including his observations about the egotists, geniuses, and workaday professionals who have sustained this unique American art form.

John Rando (Tony and Outer Critics Award winner for Urinetown) directs production starring Arnie Burton (Flesh and Bone) as Jonathan, Emily Robinson (Transparent) as Tessa, Jon Tenney (The Closer, Major Crimes, Scandal) as Jack, and Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein, Ira & Abby, Friends With Kids) as Jen.

A post-show discussion will follow the reading.

Hundreds of guests honored Wimberly Award recipient Board Chairman Carol G. Deane and celebrated the all-star cast from the Huntington's hit production of A Little Night Music, while raising over $1,000,000 (with additional gifts still coming in) to support the Huntington's renowned education and community programs at the Spotlight Spectacular on Monday, April 25. 'We are here to ensure another year of access to the Huntington's programs for thousands of young people,' said Managing Director Michael Maso. 'The centerpiece of all our education programs, the place where opportunity begins and lives are changed, is our student matinee program.'
